Sebago Lakers
« on: Mar 03, 2019, 03:19 PM »
Went up to Sebago with my buddy Mark to visit his property and stay with a neighbor.  Fished Saturday from 9am until 6pm. We had traps with shiners set in 45' up to 25' we got one smallish Laker late in the day in 25'. Not a touch on any other trap all day. At sunset we moved traps in close for cusk. I jigged 30 + holes throughout the day. Venturing out deep into Jordan Bay down to 115'. Found a few fish in 60-80' but wasn't able to get a bite. Lunch was homemade chilli over butter hot dogs with fresh chopped onions. The cusk bite was solid at dark with 5 flags and 3 fish to show. This morning started off better and finished even better. With each person getting a fish. 3 solid Lakers and mission accomplished. As Eric had never iced fished before or caught anything through the ice. All fish in the sink were the 3 cusk. I'm thinking hes a believer now...

Flags up!

Man those three are big lakers, all apparently over the 33" slot.  Really impressive.  Were they all on tip-ups?  A few weeks ago I got skunked jigging at Raymond for two hours. I tried those humps around 30 feet deep near that point on the left about a half mile from the ramp  and the 50 to 90 fow going out towards the center from those humps.

Thanks guys. We had a tough day 1 but, used the intel we had garned from 80 hrs of soak on Saturday to refine our set for sunday.  Hope to get back up there again before ice out. Being just north of the storm we had beautiful weather both days. Had a visit from the Maine state biologist who chatted for a good 15-20 minutes. He said the overpopulation of rat Lakers is stressing the Entire ecosystem.

Hey it beats a skunk while watching the biggest lakers of the season swim around your jig on panoptix.  Champlain froze really well this year.

There's a few more pictures from the weekend and I apologize the only picture of the food was this breakfast sandwich that I made which was slow cooked pepper bacon Triple Decker English muffin two poached eggs in bacon fat and swiss cheese. The last picture shows how we found my trap before the big Laker wasn't spinning that's for sure

Enjoy!
