my best guess on this fish was 35-38 inches, weight 18-22 pounds. got the pic and released the brute. he looked like to be in good shape as he swam away.
got him on a bucktail jig tipped with cut sucker in about 40 fow.
thanks for the comments guys. it my personal best freshwater fish  but there's time to get another

Nice to know that someone has the chance to catch that brute.  ;) Props for the release. I know most people wouldn't do that, including myself.

I would have thought that you would need to use a 12'' sucker to catch a laker like that! Big bait= big fish  :tipup:

big bait works well on tip ups but normally, i seldom use tipups. got em on a smallish bucktail with a piece of cut sucker I was using all day that i caught other fish with
