Golf ball hanger/spinner
« on: Feb 09, 2015, 01:17 PM »
So I found some of the posts regarding red and white golf balls and I actually have a Ping Xmas golf ball that is half red and white.  I put a small eyelet in it.  So what do you attach it to, just a string that you can twist, or a battery powered spinner dealy thingy?

A red/white golf ball to attract northerns for spearing.  The slowly spinning ball, obviously with the repeated white to dark transition brings in curious fish.  Not sure what kind of string or hanger, or if there's batter powered spinner, like some Xmas ornaments have would do the trick.   Not sure if the line should be transparent like monofilament, or if a different line should be used, like a dacron or Spectra.

Yesterday I popped a 5 pounder that was slipping up on my golf ball. Last year I nailed a 43 incher next to my golf ball spinner. I like using the ball along with my decoy.  ;D

Once again the golf ball was hit. This time by a hammer handle size pike. The fish flew in fast, spit the ball out and left in haste. Thought he might return
for another look. No, it did not.

Can you post a picture of your balls? :woot:

That may have come out wrong. Could you post a picture of your golf ball?

Sorry, don't know how to post pics.
It's a common golf ball painted half red and half white. Screw in a small metal eye screw into the white/red line. I use a 50 lb. test mono' line run up
to my mini teaser. Usually I run it about 4 or 5 feet down.

I made one after work today. Started with a range ball with a dark green stripe. Found a red  marker and filled one half. I doubt the marker will last, but the stripe is perminant. I will have to see next time I get out.

It works pretty good. All five fish yesterday came into it, ignoring my sucker. Had a whopper come in, but I couldn't spear it, it had big white tip on it's tail . Other days it seemed about half and half what they came into.

I was thinking about doing this.  I also have a six inch flasher used for trolling that I was going to put about 6 inches above the ball.  I think the flasher my get some pike attention.
I wish I knew how to do this!!

I just got a couple of wind chime spinner motors from Amazon, that are almost identical to the one offered by Clam Corp, but cheaper in price. I haven't been out yet to give one a try, so stay tuned as to how well they work.

Same here, looks just like the 29.99 model someone posted a link on here for, but it is oly 9.99 free shipping. And 30 rpm instead of almost 60 on some of the others.

Spearing rocks for sure. It is such a rush when a gator gets close. Wife and I punch gill holes at the end of our larger 12 foot long shanty, and a spearing hole in the middle. We put a couple cams on the decoys and when gills blow out, we swivel around for the spearing hole after seeing pike enter the HKZ. Look forward to it every year.

Or get the three pack for $29. One for your spinner, one to pan your cam and the last one can turn a weenie over the heater for lunch.
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

I ordered 3 motors from amazon yesterday. are all double/ or single balls? I am going to do one with a spinner skirt on the bottom in stead of a spoon but what do you use to attach the ball to the motor to adjust the length of depth needed? or do you just measure from the motor to ice, and add 3 ft? or whatever? and , I was thinking nail polish , thoughts?
 thanks

I attach a mono line approx. 12'-13' long. My hub ceiling is approx. 6-1/2' high, this puts the spinner approx. 6-1/2' under the ice.
I also used nail polish for color. It sticks good to the surface of the golf ball. I also used a clear coat on some of the colors. It seemed to "brighten" them up a bit.

I know this is an old thread but i never knew there's a darkhouse section.
My question is if you slushies solved your spinner issue.
I've developed one that will jig, spin , wobble or swim single or double decoys w/ teaser attache.
Speed is variable from 3-10 rpm

In Wisc. we spear sturgeon.
I knew a guy that had good luck with a Pabst Blue Ribbon beer sign hanging in his hole.
