I drove by Fitch this afternoon and yes the ice was piled high.  What is unusual is that it blew off the lake when it was still 6-8" thick.  Takes a pretty strong wind, and the moving ice is another reminder of why people take their docks out (at Saratoga).

I have a number of friends who swear the ice sinks when it goes out.  I have given up arguing with them.

I stopped by the boat launch today and fish creek up to the  main lake looks clear  but there appears to be a big wall of ice across the creek separating it from the main lake(which is mostly open too).  I was going to take the boat out but I don't know if it is just floating slush or actual ice out there.

Actual ice. A buddy launched his boat today thinking he could get out to the south end and found the ice pack

Checking back, we went from driving trucks on the ice to ice out in two weeks.  It really went fast this year.

Last year had totally different weather conditions than we have this year. We won't be on for awhile yet. The launch and fish creek started to ice up last week but has since opened up with the warmer weather. I hunted ducks on Monday. We had to break a little ice going out to the main lake but the water has come up and it is still liquid up to the shore line in Mannings Cove.

Last year I believe I had already been out on toga by this point in the year,   quads and snowmobiles were out by the 1st,  hopefully everything will lock up quick after this rain and warm spell coming up

I fished the south end of the lake last year on Dec. 26th on 3" to 4" of ice.  Not this year.  A cold snap with no snow would help.

Anyone know if Browns Beach will allow parking for icefishing? Several inquiries have been made no answer.  Thanks

I heard from a fellow that lives on the lake that it has locked up as of yesterday. He said there were a few small areas in the middle the size of Stewarts shop that were open. They should be frozen after last night. Lake lonely is being fished for those looking to go that way.  Be safe this weekend!

There was an article in the Express newspaper where the town supe was interviewed about Brown's Beach developments.  Among the planned activities for this winter he cited "fishing contests" (or some phrase like that) so I think it will be open for fishing but we'll see.  The big question is whether they allow motorized vehicles on the ice from there or not, and as I mentioned in an earlier post, whether they keep the parking plowed out.  So far, the main benefit of the new Brown's Beach has been to the operators of Dock Brown's restaurant.  I live nearby and haven't seen but a handful of folks enjoying the park for other than parking for their dinner.   I'm not sure about how I feel about the town subsidizing a restaurant.

In the words of the immortal Spongebob Squarepants, "I'M READY".  Got my license this morning (Shock - price went down), lake is finally froze up tight (but how thick?).  Tomorrow looks arctic, I'm thinking maybe Friday.

I fished south end on 6in today. Saw 3 or 4 people on fish creek this afternoon. I would think it's good to go, but didn't fish that part.

Its a great area to fish if you are willing to drill holes and cover water.   I've caught perch, bluegills and a few scattered walleyes.   First ice is the best time.

Does anyone know if you are allowed to park at the Browns Beach Park? I tried calling, but couldn't get in touch with anyone. It looked plowed when I passed it the other day.

Thanks

You can they have a small parking lot plowed out on the left side you can't park at the restaurant or marina where the ramp is.  Pick up your trash we have something good don't want it ruined by dirt bags....

It was -16F at my house near the lake this morning.  I don't think we have to worry about enough ice for a while.
