Looks like the bay is frozen. Shouldn't be long before we can get some smelt.
-
Boated 1,383 in 6 trips the past few weeks. Please don't tell anyone . Edit, I have only caught 852 of them & I am still well below my personal possession limit .

Your secret is safe!

South bay did lock up yesterday, but the rest of the lake is pretty much wide open. The ice ends at the narrows between south & 2nd. bays. There is some shore ice forming, but all the wind is definitely not helping. I will be keeping an eye out on the ice conditions. Quite a few guys down this way going out on sketchy ice. I don't do that & will not give any "Safe Ice " reports unless I find consistent ice that I feel OK about.

Fwiw, there's several guys on South Bay right now, but my spud went through in one hit today so best of luck to the brave souls out there on top of all that snow.

As of 1/19/24 2nd. bay is still open water .

Checked the ice at 2nd. bay & Baseline rd. yesterday. Got about 50 yds. out & the spud went through w/ 1 wack. Gonna be a while .

We very well may not get to fish the north end this winter.

I miss the winters when we were on the north end by now.

The lake is pretty much wide open now. Had 3 nights of Smelt fishing on south bay. Time to get the boat back out after them !
