Pound for pound, Smallmouth Bass! Most spectacular fight, Steelhead.

Smallmouth or Spawning Redbreast Sunnies.

this little guy

Took more like than this guy

Haven't caught enough fish through the ice to give an objective view, but I gotta say... I'd love to get a nice 2-3lb smallie through the ice this year.

Ive caught alot of small mouths while targeting yellow perch.  Pound for pound I think they have been the best fight through the ice for me.  lakers are a pretty good fight but they also usualy weigh 5-10 times as much as a 12-16" 2 pound smallie
The world is more then 2/3 water and less then 1/3 land there fore God wanted us all to spend twice as much time fishing as we spend on the lawn.

Bluefish beat a tuna anyday.  If bluefish got as big as tuna there would be no sharks.

I would say white perch rate right up there pound for pound.

This was my first thought when seeing this thread.  Best fight for any panfish i think. Used to catch them in Maine a lot...but have never caught one in NY.  Where do you get them in NYS?

Went to temagami in canada last year catching both lakers and whitefish in about 40 ' of water.  Even though the lakers were bigger the whitefish fought harder.  Smallmouths out of the Niagara river about 7 miles ABOVE the falls really fight hard in the summer.  Think the current must really get them into shape or something.

No if ands or buts about it, LL SALMON.. The acrobatic airial show they put on is awesome. I've seen them leap all of 4 feet out of the water.

Limiting the list to ice-fishing only, and fish of 4 lbs. and up, my vote is for lake trout, although I have not caught any LL salmon to compare. A 5 # laker puts up more fight than a 10 # pike on a tip-up. Not even close.

The Ultimate Warrior is possessed with great power from the heavens above ! Against the mighty lake trout and pike and schools of crappie, the power of the WARRIOR will always ......... PREVAIL !!!

3.5 to 4 lb Smallie no contest...And u ask y not bigger ones,The biiger ones in my opinion usually just give up.....I think its because maybe they have been caught before.I'm talking 5lb + smallies. But those 3 to 4 lbers that you get those are the strogest diggers around no doubt about it...Ask Z if you wont take my opinion.Z is for Mark Zona!!!!
