I went open water yesterday, and the water temp was pretty cold..its gotta be in the low 40's maybe upper 30's we need like a week straight of nights in the 20's and teens before we start seeing any significant formation

I usualy say most lakes North of the Thruway can be fishable (4 iches of ice for me ) by Christmas I ve been on Delta the week before Xmas the last 2 years Old forge area and north can be as early as the first week or to of December but it all of depends on the weather. I know everyone gets itchy this time of year but lets not get to itchy its Nov 8th and open water fishing is hot right now just about everywhere.

I was on the ice last year on December 6th...By December 10th, we were on 5 inches.  Of course, this is in Saranac Lake, the coldest place in NY.  ;)

No ice anywhere up this way.  In fact, the water temps are still ranging into the lower 40's and the air temps are running in the mid 50's almost every day....we'll be behind schedule in getting on the ice this year as long as this continues....Esox

I have the "itch" as bad as anybody, but lets face it,it's still early.I was putting my wood stove in last year on December 1st and it was over 60 degrees here in the capital district. Not 13 days later I knew of guys hitting the ice in Hamilton county, also we were on local waters before new years day. It's a coming...FLAG!!!

I'm 10 minutes from the border....even the shallow water bays are still in the low 40's for temps..and we're forecast for highs near 50 and rain for the next 8 days.....Esox

Hey pro50guy when you figure out where your going to find ice let me know. I will go searching with you. Lets just stay away when there is 90+mph wind on the lake like last year. It was a little brutal out there.

sorry dude....figured you might like saving a whole bunch of gas by not driving up this way and being sorely disappointed.

Nobody is looking forward to ice more than I am, and I don't think there's ice anywhere near enough I could get to it on one tankful of gas, possibly even 2 tanks.....Esox
