I'm sure this has been asked before but when I did a quick search everything was more about the type of line rather than how much line is needed.
When looking at tip-up line - how long of a spool do I need/is recommended?
I see 50 yard and 200 yard- does all depend on the fish I'm trying to catch? I.e. pan fish = 50 yard? Pike/walleye = 200 yard?
Could I catch a pike on 50 yard or would I risk the line being snapped?

I would say it depends on the depth you plan on fishing and the size of spool on your tip up as well.

Just fill your spool.
Yup, Yup
A full spool also means that the reel pulls in more line with each revolution when you reel in your lure/fish.

Fill 'er up! Most line isn't that expensive so why risk getting spooled.

Good thing about tip-up line is that $10-$20 to fill all your spools will last a lifetime if you don’t get a whip knot in the middle of it.

I put as much as the spool can fit, mostly so the "arbor" is larger.

I fill the spool, which takes 100 yards of dacron, then I put on a barrel swivel and six feet of leader.

Just fill your spool.
This^
A full spool trips easier. .a full spool pays out line smoother, a full spool keeps you from getting "spooled "
