Outaouais fishing report
« on: Jan 30, 2011, 01:32 PM »
Guys,

I thought my first official Ice Shanty post should be concerning fishing reports in my area.

Been out a few times on small private lakes.

Pike are absolutely destroying my tip up`s. Caught a 34 inch 8 pounder the other day that smacked my tip up outrageously hard, and ran into another one when he took off. Got a couple of nice little 4 and 6 pounders on my jigging rod that came out of nowhere like torpedoes ( saw them on the aqua vu ). They too absolutely exploded when they hit the northland buckshot jigging spoon I was using.

Got a couple of small perch, nothing worth bragging about.

Haven`t fished any walleye waters yet, but hoping to do so very soon.

FYI, there will be a fishing derby at Lac Saint Marie near the end of Feb. I will post updates on here as I find more info.

How are the fish biting in other parts of our belle province??

Last week the walleye bite was really good on the St-Lawrence river in popular spots close to Montreal. We now have 12-18'' of solid dark ice almost everywhere.

Most of the fish were biting in 10-15' on a large Jigging Rap tipped with a minnow head.

Got 8 good size walleye on Jan 18 and about a dozen on Jan 23.
Also got a 2# pike and a 10'' perch while targeting walleye.

Next Tuesday, I'll be fishing for crappie on Lac St-Louis.

Antoine, Nice fish! Wish I could catch fish like that here! :)  I get to enjoy Quebec fishing once a year during the summer at Kipawa Lake. Beautiful country up there!

Well....

A little bit late to start our season, however, went out to my lake Saturday, 5-6 inches of black ice!!! I`ll definitely be hitting it this weekend to test out my new Lowrance Sonar...

How`s the ice around the province?
