Post by: spudbar on Nov 21, 2006, 02:12 PM
When does this lake Freeze? I have heard some stories about this place. Been there once, no luck. Does anybody have any info on ice fishin this place, or good fish stories, or lies to tell?

We can probably start fishing the northern end of the lake in mid December.  Try up the Blacks fork and at firehole first, you will usually encounter rainbows with a few macs hanging around off of the points or near the old river channel.

We used to be able to fish the gorge all the way down to swim beach (just north of Lucerne) every year, but the last ten years the ice has slowly retreated north and last year as far south as you could ice fish SAFLEY was currant creek just south of the confluence of the Blacks fork.

I am starting to really believe that there is something to this global warming thing.  Thirty years of living in Green River and twenty eight of it ice fishing and it`s really getting difficult to find much hard water to fish on.

Big Red, are there more big macs closer to lucern, or can you find them up north too? My 1 time down there there was a ton of people fishing down by Anvil, a few by buckboard, nobody was catching chit?

yep.  those fish look like they're pregnant!  a lot of folks say that there is much more of a chance of bigger fish occuring in a lake if it is a larger lake, like flaming gorge, but i'm still convinced there are some local lunkers hanging out in our little area lakes...  and i know for a fact that there are big boys swimming around in jackson lake.
