how do they work? its kind of a weird shap, do you set them over or under your tip ups, and how long do they last?i personally wouldnt use them, i like getting up and walking around when the bite is slow and cleaning my holes and checking my bait

I take it you hook them to a 12 vt battery and put them in the hole with the tip up   I usually dont mind checking the tip ups    but  mostly insurance  for night time when ya might fall asleep lol after partaking in a day of festivities in the shack  Lost 2 laker traps last year to freezing in and 2 to an idiot driver at 2 in the am that saw a light on in my shack (not far from a bar on long lake)

thats a good point, i guess i have just never fished over night, that would be a good ideaq, but it seems like alot of weight to be carying those, extra batteries ??? plus, do you have to leave them conected to the battery, or just charge them ??? and do you have to be careful they dont melt right down into the water ???

Im thinking one of those jumper packs   or gel cell battery   the rings are light   and would float  supossed to heat up to 125 degrees

whats the price tag on them?  sounds like alot more weight if you need a battery for each.

I have fished in some god forsaken cold, and with Frabill thermal tipups my holes don't freeze. Granted, I check my bait and touch up the hole every 30 min or so, but who doesn't? Hole heaters seem like more stuff to drag out on the ice. The more stuff you drag out, the harder it is to move. The harder it is to move, the less you move. The less you move, the fewer fish you are gonna catch (in most cases). Always pack light. ;)

Whatever happened to just putting snow over/around your hole to keep it from freezing? (for tip-ups) Try it some time, it's the best insulator and there is usualy a bit of it around ;D

Go ice fishin
Have fun
Drink a couple beers
Pee in the hole

it adds just enough salinity that the hole won't freeze over
Have YOU Clamped YET ?

This, has to be a inside JOKE! Set, of three, for a eight hole! Dose's the little one boil, and the big one stays luke-warm? 12 volt batteries? Parallel or series, 12, 24, 36 volt's?

I think the pic is illustrating the fact that you buy the size ring according to the size hole your auger drills....as far as 12 volt batteries for each one, that sounds nuts!!  Esox

They say you can hook up 5 to one 12v battery. I doubt they supply you with any wire to run that though. I usually don't keep my tip-ups close to each other, so that would be some serious yards of wire to run. Also, they want $48 for 2 of these things before shipping costs.  I could see some use for them in a permanent shanty that you don't want your holes to freeze overnight, but that's about it. JMO.

If you had alot of tip-ups you would have enough wire on the ice to  wire a house :woot:

Buddy picked up a couple and the snow was drifting in the holes pretty bad ,they seemed to work pretty well, it was about 5 degrees out, We get some days it's 10 to 20 below  and holes ice up in minutes and it is a pain  on all night trips to keep a bunch of holes open @ 20 below. We have been using cans and charcoal but this can get spendy, I hope they work out , because I,m going to get a couple for those bitter cold days when I want to set a couple lines outside the shack. We're headed out this weekend for a camping trip on the lake we'll get to see them in action.
Even a bad day fishing beats a good day at work.
