I move to retire the terms "first ice" and "last ice" for the area of southern Michigan in an avoidance of redundancy.

I suggest replacement jargon "second ice" and "mid-winter open water" for consideration by the community.

I have chosen to think outside the box & get my "Toon" out.  The fishing is excellent, but cold hands suck on a hot bite ! Would much rather drag a couple hundred lbs. of gear out on a couple of jet sleds & stay warm,but ya gotta adapt to the conditions !
