trying out flying pond for the first time tomorrow. anybody have any tips? bait shinners vs. smelts?

I usually go with suckers on bottom, some nice lakers in there. 
it's already had a pretty good pounding. @)

im really going because I heard of some good brown fishing. but also heard the brookie fishing can be good. gunna do some trekking to get where I want.

I've always done better there with crawlers....good browns...but this was ten years ago...
