Last Year was the first year we had a group of Iceshanty members get together on the lake but it wasn't a event were every one set as a group and fished together. Well after individual groups reported there stories and catches something caught on.
At this years The Gathering it came to light. As the sun set at the smelt lights were turned on it was know. "Hot Da@n!" was yelled out. That was the official signal that a smelt was caught! You knew when the bite was on, as there were 25-30 shanties packed tightly together, and the shouts would go out more and more frequently sometimes overlaping the other. What a night it was to spend time with fellow shanty members and guest to our group! We now have a tradition here in MI! May not be the best thing to yell out but that's what we do!
