I went out to cobbossee with fishon-fishoff and smeltslayer42, today. When we got on the ice, we met up with Fishalot and his friend. Fishing was slow, but we managed a few white perch and a crappie on the jig rods. Not many flags. A little while after Fishalot and friend left, I got a flag on my "lucky" home made trap. When I got to it the wheel was turning so I pulled the trap and tried to set the hook. I played it for a couple of yards and felt it come off. I was bummed! I pulled the line in to re spool and check the hook to see if I still had bait. I pulled the bait up the hole and it was still alive, but not doing too well. I let it down to see if it would swim, when smeltslayer brought the bait bucket over. While I was looking in the bait bucket, still holding the line with the bait at the bottom of the hole, the brown grabbed it and took off. I was able to set the hook, this time and iced this nice brown. Bait was only about 2 inches below the ice when the brown hit it. We figure the trout must have followed the bait to the hole, after loosing it the first time around.Cool, eh?(Image removed from quote.)
