Good to hear you won some door prizes. under 500 people is way under the usual.

Were there a lot of pike caught in general????

Not many pike caught at all .... 7/8 pound fish = money .....kids out drag racing sleds while people are fishing shallow in 5 foot of water really makes you wonder .... I was taught to stay quiet while hunting and fishing ....

Unsure on ice thickness in the narrows, had a wheeler and ranger out there Tuesday, but came from cranberry not wanakena. There is no snow for the snowmobiles, I would use a wheeler only at your caution

I know where there are some - would need a boat to get to them though, and a place with no ice to launch that boat.   :P

Yo Phil,

I will note there are still  fishermen and fisherwomen who are finding some hard water to stand on. I'm not going to say where nor advocate access, but there are such places. This brief spell of cold nights just might prolong the ice fishing season if it can freeze the edges back up. During the meantime, I have replaced the lines on my 2 favorite long poles and Looking for more open water. I put a new anchor line with a pulley on the "Stealth" and I'm ready to paddle my way through the ice chunks at "Ice out".
Start each day with the exuberance of a 10 year old . Do not allow those around you to diminish that exuberance.

Is anybody willing to give a little advice on Schroon Lake? I have fished Schroon multiple times targeting lake trout with almost no success. I’ve fished the northern end off Fowler and the boat launch and fished anywhere from 30-90 ft. Tried a variety of jigs and have tip ups out as well. Haven’t marked many fish in my trips. What else should I be doing to be more successful?

Sounds like your on the correct track. What I do is looks for areas that have shallow water for bait fish and then a drop off. The trout will normally cruise that drop off looking for the bait fish to ambush.  I always start shallow. 15-20 feet and work my way deep. If your not marking any fish move left or right down the drop off until you mark something. Don’t spend too much time at each hole. Normally 10 min. Look for for bends or points in the drop off. If I mark fish and they won’t hit I’ll set up a jaw jacker or top up and move to the next location staggering depth. Lakers are like little sharks. They cruise around looking for meals. If your not in a route the fish are cruising you might not hit any fish if your in one spot. That’s why I like to move around until I see fish. If you don’t have a contour map of the lake pm me and I’ll send you one.

I was able to have my best afternoon of 3 hrs of fishing yesterday. Caught limit of walleye, a small pike, and my first ever musky. What an epic afternoon on the ice for me.

Followed up this morning with 1 eye which went back down the hole bc she was a fatty and not a proper eater size for me.
