Garmin striker4 in weeds
« on: Feb 23, 2022, 09:28 AM »
Anyone have any advice for using the garmin striker 4 in a shallow, weedy lake? The water is about 8-10 ft deep. I cant see anything but red when i drop the transducer in. I cant find my bait or see fish. Just wondering if maybe there are any specific settings to adjust.

The unit is probably in the auto gain mode. Go in and turn auto gain off and adjust the gain down manually.

I also believe you can change depth range on that unit as well so taking the range out of auto and into 20 ft might be best bet.  I say 20 because I think that’s the least you can go with.

Thanks guys. I do have the proper transducer chosen. I do not have any issues with the unit other than when the weeds are bad in a lake. Most lakes it works perfectly. I do usually keep the unit in auto mode. I will try the gain and depth suggestions if the ice holds up for this weekend.

Another thing to check is the cone angle. If the unit has more than one use the smallest as it will reduce the weeds picked up on the periphery and focus more directly under the hole. Not sure it will make a big difference in 10’ water. I have same problem with my Lowrance, which is less expensive unit but is way better than fishing blind.

Welp still didn't have much luck with the fish finder today. I played around with the gain and depth settings. The gain helped figure out where the top of the weeds were,  but just couldn't find my bait.  Still did great fishing the old fashioned way

Can you turn the white line setting on.
It turns the red bottom to white. Just grabbing at straws here. Hoping something will help.

Gambler, never heard about either of those settings. I will have to do some playing around and/or manual reading to figure those out, thanks.
