Same here!  There’s a good lake trout fishery about an hour from my house, and once it has safe ice I don’t go anywhere else.  We don’t get many big ones, but great numbers in the 3-7 lb range.

Those sound like good size for eating .
Only lake close to my home is 3 hrs away (COLD LAKE)and anything less than 75 cm which is about a 10 lb. you have to release.

Finally found out how to cook those fatties .   I used to deep fry them or steak them for an oven bake.  Not any more.
I find if you just fry them in a pan  until the out side gets crisp they taste unreal.

  • Ice fishing a sport, or just reason to buy stuff?
