Ice conditions/Updates!
« on: Feb 22, 2010, 10:20 PM »
Spring is just around the corner. I havent been on ice in a while. Guys in southern BC are saying the ice is leaving quick and expect to be off in a couple weeks in some areas...

Lets make a thread on current ice conditions/thicknesses...

Watched my rod from the warmth of my car today. Ice was at least 20 inches at the lakes in the mackenzie area. Drove by the causeway and decided to skip it. Looked a little sketchy for my liking.

In the last week I've been out about 4 or 5 times and every lake in the PG area I was at was at least 14 inches or so.

Gee Ian your gonna get people up here scared about going on the ice   ;D
I think we will be on for at least another 5 weeks especially when we get that -30 to -35 temps in early-mid March ;D I will have to head north to Yukon border again if I want to icefish into May again this year....lots of ice up there according to my relatives ;)
Last I heard there was still 16 inches of solid on Cluculz.

Went to Norman today and ice was beautiful. 1/4 inch of slush when we came on but froze right back up when we left at 8 pm.

went to eaglet lake this afternoon to the first pullout and inspected the ice. around the lake in spots theres open water-very thin ice for about 5 feet- threw a rock and went rite to the bottom. Further down the lake there is solid ice to the shore where u can access the middle of the lake- lake is still completely froze over, didnt drill any holes, but its thawin quick!

How much an hour for the plane tabordan? I bet Artic lk was awsome to fly into. You going to get pontoons on your plane? I have a couple of pontoon boats that would fit in the cargo locker and would be willing to put in for fuel. I would think its alittle bumpy once you get in those mountains eh? Sounds like a nice day to be above ground though. Tight lines  Thanks for up dates

didnt see any fish under the bridges at crooked river like usually do. Still lots of snow. Water is clean and average depths.
Can almost watch the ice and snow melt today!

as of Saturday April 3rd we couldn't get out on eaglet anymore without a ladder. (we didn't have one).
i got out onto the backside of tabor and ice was still good except for the top crust i kept breaking through which made it a little scary. the holes aren't freezing over completely anymore so i didn't need an auger. no fish though.

Cluculz is also 20 feet from shore so i might have to swim out to go ice fishing cuz the ice is still atleast a few inches thick

My Mom says I'm better than all of you.
