I fish in northern Ontario and fish without a shack. I am currently using 20lb fireline crystal with a 20lb fluorocarbon leader. It seems to work ok but I often wonder with these powerful fish if it is the right line. Fish size is 24" - 40". What's everyone else using?

Sounds about right.

20lb floro is what i use 6ft long tied to a small barrel swivel
could go lighter if u dont horsem around ;)

braid backing, forgot what lb...

Also the lakes I fish are barbless so you have to keep the pressure on them.

I use 16# test on all my trout reels, I trout fish a lot and have never broken a line, just on the very rare occasion have been cut off by a northern. I have caught up to 40" trout on 16# test, still hoping to land something bigger than the 39" and 3/4 inch trout that I had a replica made of.

I put 15lb braid on my last rig and then 3-4’ flouro leader. Has anyone used the power pro slick 8 V2? Hoping it ices up less than tradition braids but would appreciate some opinions from the field.

I have pp slick 8 v2 on a couple rods. It seems to ice up less than regular braid, but still more than mono or flouro. I like it a lot for lakers.

12-15 lb mono/copoly or 8 -20 lb braid with 12 lb flouro leader

36lb wax coated tip up line with 12 or 15lb fluorocarbon leader.
For rods, I use 20lb power pro braid with 12 or 15lb fluorocarbon leader.

Yeah, I ended up with 15lb braid (PP slick) and then run 10-15lb flouro leader depending on the lake. Seems about ideal.

Most fish i hook into are in the 20-35" range. For my laker rods im using 8# or 10# Suffix 832 braid with a 8# flouro leader. Havent had any issues with line breaking on me (knock on wood). Just make sure you have your drag set right and you can work the fish without a problem.
