We are getting hammered with rain What do you think the conditions will be after Sat ?? Will we be able to get out on the lakes in Central and southern Maine ?

Some places won't be fishable and others will be o.k. Usually its getting on & off that's a problem. I'm going somewhere this weekend. I can't sit around for another month.

I've been on the phone with weigh stations and wardens all over Maine today and it ain't pretty. If you want decent reports I recommend you call our stations @ Springfield (738-2112) and Cross Lake(834-5625).

I'm guessing the mass of the ice should still be a foot plus in most of Kennebec County. The edges will be an adventure and it may take a Plan B or C to get on. The edges can re-tighten next week if we get a cold snap and they haven't blown out too bad. I plan to go Sunday. I will eat a big meal tonight and then go on starvation diet to maximize my chances of staying topside.

A further problem could be heavy wet snow on top of beat up ice. This is an updated weather guess from the NWS for Kennebec-Androscoggin Counties. The NWS wrote it in caps, not me.

FRIDAY NIGHT...SNOW LIKELY. SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 2 TO 4 INCHES
POSSIBLE. LOWS IN THE UPPER 20S. NORTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 MPH.
CHANCE OF SNOW 70 PERCENT.

.SATURDAY...SNOW. ADDITIONAL HEAVY SNOW ACCUMULATION. HIGHS IN THE
UPPER 30S. NORTHEAST WINDS AROUND 10 MPH. CHANCE OF SNOW 80 PERCENT.
.SATURDAY NIGHT...CLOUDY WITH A 50 PERCENT CHANCE OF SNOW. LOWS IN
THE UPPER 20S. LIGHT AND VARIABLE WINDS.

.SUNDAY...CLOUDY WITH A 50 PERCENT CHANCE OF SNOW. HIGHS AROUND 40.

everywhere but up north will be unfishable. I think they should start open water season early this year so all the ice fisherman dont go crazy from withdrawls.

I think the ice around central maine will be OK. Just bring a ladder to get out on the ice with and a life jacket to stay afloat.

This is what I found at Littlo O today...
While I was there I saw 7 shacks come off the ice...
Mind you near shore there was still 10" of safe ice...But I wouldn't walk out too far where that black ice is.
