Best sled harness for pulling?
« on: Dec 19, 2015, 03:22 PM »
I know this has probably been posted elsewhere, but i got tired of searching. Sorry. Any of you guys got any ideas on what might be the best, (for the lowest price, of course), towing harness for walking with my frabill one man? I thought about getting the clam harness, but didn't know if it was just cheap plastic. I probably won't be pulling a ton of weight anyway, though.

I use same full body harness that came with my tree stand. No need to do up the crotch straps. There is a carabiner on each side near the hips.  I used plastic electrical conduit tubes (3/4 inch) with rope inside to connect to the sled. I put a snap carabiner on each end of the rope and 2 eye bolts in the front of the sled.  The rigid tubes keep the sled from running me over when going down hill.

I have the clam harness and like it.  Many use just a deer drag, much cheaper.

I use one of the deer drag harnesses, it works fine and not bad on the wallet.

Man, thanks for the quick responses! Love this site! I'm not a deer hunter, but I'll look into the drag harnesses(SP?). Like I said I was just worried about the clam's durability and strength. It looked online like I'd be paying more for the name brand than quality. It looked like cheap plastic.

The drag I got is florescent orange and I got it at Walmart for around $10.  It's basically the same as the one Clam makes without the Clam price.

A cheaper option would to be just buy some rope and cut it to the length you want. Make it about 12-15 feet in length. Then just put the rope over your shoulder.

I have a very long rope on my sleds and just put it over one shoulder and it pulls just fine.

I wear my backpack w food  and gear in it.  Then i attach a rope w 2 carabiners on it to my backpack straps to pull my sled.  Works awesome and only is the cost of rope and 2 carabiners.

Same here.  I have also used the blaze orange hunters specialty deer drag.  Backpack is more comfy though.   Especially with the hip strap buckled up.  The bottom of my pack has a grab loop on it, I clip the 'biner to it an go

i"ll check out the orange one chris, thanks. I tried just using an extra long rope last year, but I've had a bunch of cancer surgeries on my throat and neck and it put a hell of a strain on my throat. A friend and 6 cold beers! LOL!

Used a long rope for a long time. Looped over one shoulder and under one arm everything pulled easy. Accessing a river where I fish is a down slope from parking lot to river, and what I pull will pass me, so I can just let go of the rope and let it slide, and pick it up when I catch up to it. Bigger and longer rope works best. Smitty sleds work good also.

My rope is long enough to flip it over the back of the sled and let the sled go first and still have control of it.

Took the strap off my golf bag, attached to fairly long rope. Padded strap over each shoulder, works great.

I found one made by Rapala recently, still have to try it out on the ice. It seems to be made well. For about half the price of the clam one I figured i would try it out.

All different types. Some have a single over the shoulder strap, and some have a double shoulder straps.   It all depends what your looking for.

how about my expired belts out of my drag truck? leave out the crotch strap of course! hookem up and use a caribiner in the mounting holes.
