Steve

Not a whole lot this year thankfully.
Going to get my pellet stove, a pallet of pellets and some more scaffolding out there as well as my cabinets and a few other small things.
Only 3 or 4 trips.
Maybe I'll have time to chill and fish.

Glad you will only be making a few trips transporting items for cabin and might find time to enjoy the location and do some fishing.

Will you ice fish any spots you find fishing with your boat ? Are you going to build any of your furniture? Looks like going back to town will be harder to do this year, especially if you get the stove working.

Yup, that's why I bought my Garmins so I can map my lake. :)

I plan to build my couch and beds from logs.
Really looking forward to having heat in the place.

Been out @ the cabin the last couple of weekends getting the trail ready to haul supplies.
Got to play with my new toy today and got some great shots from the air.  ;D

Also found out this week that Google Earth has updated and my cabin is now seen from space.  :)

My buddy heats his mom's place with one of these. She being female and older keeps the place really toasty and uses 1 1/4 bags of pellets a day.
She is in interior Alaska where it's a lot like my area for cold.

Drifter 016/Dave nice photos with assistance of your new toy. To my knowledge most bags of stove pellets here in the U.S. are 40 pounds so if you cabin is similar in square footage to friend's mothers house with equal insulation a bag should last you 4 or more days. Just curious how much area does your lease cover will you possibly have neighbors on the island/peninsula?
Thank you for the update looking forward to more as this years construction starts.

On low the stove will run for 30 hours on a hopper load.
Hopper holds 60#'s. That works out to 48#'s per 24 hour period.
Lease covers 70X70 meters but the leases are 300 meters apart.

Thank you for the reply Drifter 016 saw your stove or similar model at my local Tractor Supply Company store odd looking design sure you researched stove efficiency before making purchase.

So you could have neighbors in time but will have buffer between your properties personally think you will have limited people out there during Winter months.

One or two good neighbors could be beneficial if help is needed or you might want to pick-up a fishing partner.  Post an add "No neighbors allowed unless you fish both Summer and Winter" LOL.  Good luck this summer.

Back out at the cabin again this weekend.
Took out a bunch of stuff including the window for my washroom.
Even got it installed. :)
Makes a big difference with all the natural light it lets in.

Moved my kitchen away from the stairs and into the shower area in the washroom so I could put the pellet stove in it's location to see how it fits and looks.
Fits good.
Looks good!!!   ;D

Back at er again next weekend. ;)

What made you choose a pellet stove over a wood burner? I知 genuinely interested being you probably have a nearly endless wood supply for free I知 assuming, so I知 sure there is a particular reason for the pellet stove?

The main reason is I'm gettin' old and me back is screwed so the less work I have to do the better.
The second is the stove runs for 30 hours on low unlike every woodstove ever built. The last thing I want to do when I roll out of bed in the AM is to stoke the stove.
Let me have my pee and a coffee first. ;)
The third is the amount of mess you get with a wood stove. Bark and crap all over the floor.
Fourth, we have nothing but black spruce to burn.
Fifth, hauling in bags of pellets is a ton less work than cutting and splitting wood.

Any trees I cut down will be cut and stacked and used for outdoor fires. :)

Those gravity pellet stoves look ineresting, no power needed.
Do you need to clean them every day like the conventional ones?

Won't know until I start running it.
It's very easy to clean though. The ashtray is the bottom  one on the right side.
Just slide it out and dump.
Won't know about creosote buildup until I get a chance to run it some.
Hopefully it won't be bad as I really don't want to be climbing on an icy metal roof in the winter. ;)

Got a chimney brush ordered along with my chimney.

The best pellets to run in these stoves are premium softwood pellets.
Standard grade softwood and hardwood pellets are a lot dirtier and require much more cleaning.

Was out at the cabin doing a little work today.
The temps are getting up into the minus single digits and the sun is shining.

Took out some lumber and all the chimney pieces for my stove. Got the cement board installed but have to wait for above freezing temps to do the tiling of the hearth. Then I can get the stove all installed although it will need to be removed when I install the posts for the stair railings and the river rock veneer behind the stove. That's a couple of years out.

They sure don't give the chimney fixin's away. Stuff is uber spendy.  :woot:

I've got $1,200 into this pile of chimney and duct work.

Oh well, at least I'll have heat.
