Title: Am I the only Lilly "piker" out there?
Post by: BDailey on Jan 15, 2010, 10:47 AM
Just curious if any one's fishing Lilly for pike? I haven't seen anyone else fishing there other than myself and my couple of buddys. It's definitely worth the trip!! going for first light tomorrow a.m.

Don't question a gift.  You won't be the only one on there when the other pike lakes close for the season.  Then we play the game, who's plank is longer.

Plenty of people fish it and put their time in. And they are quiet about it. Probably why it has remained a decent fishery.

Yes, Lilly is definitely an over looked water shed, but it isn't a secret either ( Ct state record 29 lbs, 1981).  If you don't know where to go or what structures to fish, lilly can be difficult and disappointing when hunting for pike.  I've put my time in and I know several spots that produce considerable fish frequently. Lillinonoah is located in the western part of ct, nothwest of my home town of Oxford. It can be accessed at several different towns it borders, newtown, southbury, bridgewater. Access is difficult due to private residents but mostly because of steep terrain which makes it hard to access by car.  Take a look at access points noted on the DEP website for state boat launches and parking.

My guess is that there are some big fish in there because people don't keep them due to the PCBs - I don't eat them from there for that reason..."Lilly" is a dammed up section of the Housatonic river...

Lol no pike in there huh?  Try trolling huge danny plugs there and see what happens!  Haven't tried the ice because of how much the water moves.  Seems pike are hard to get there but they are huge.  Some of the smallies ive caught in the tailwater of that dam have been 5 plus.  I love that place.  Good crappie bite too.  Anyone on the ice there as of now?

I've tried there a few times with no luck on pike, caught some nice bass and plenty of crappie and panfish to keep me plenty busy, now they closed off my access and I don't know how serious they're enforcing it...
