So there is always a partial moon when he catches fish, but what about a full moon?  ;D
It doesn't sound that appealing to most people I talk to, but going out onto a frozen lake and staring into a hole for the day is my favorite thing to do.

I've had a good bite on numerous occasions surrounding moon rise and moon set in all phases just like the bite tends to be good around dusk and dawn..

I've done well during a full moon for walleyes, but ive done poor as well.. Pressure plays a role in it too.

I know the walleye in my local river tend to be active with a brighter moon. You can see them with a spotlight coming into the shallow riffles to chase bait. But there's 1 spot under a bridge with bright lights where they will do this every night. I think it's just about visibility. If they can see it, they might eat it. If they can't, well...

Well let's remember, walleyes are designed to be night/low light feeders. In these conditions, bait can't see them, but they can see bait. There is no doubt a brighter moon plays a role in how much light their eyes can collect. But i'm confident their superior sight and senses lead them to be a top predator even on darkest of nights...depending on water clarity. If clarity is poor you can almost guarantee a improved daytime bite.

Fair enough in open water but the ice/ snow cuts a ton of light out. I would think that on a cloudy night with a layer of ice and snow blocking out what little light there is that even walleye are just about blind. I'd bet the moon has more influence on hard water.

I was told by my dad and brother no moon is the best open water or frozen. I know night fishing for trout and cats in open water is better with no moon. But who knows if they are hungry they will eat. All u can do is try it. Good luck.
