It was great seeing Dave Genz do his seminar last year.  This year he'll be back as well as a couple of the guys from the Ice Men tv show - Boshold and Pikulski giving presentations.

The good reports come from realistic people with open minds who go by the "you get what you pay for" attitude !
The bad reports come from the people who're usually too cheap to spend a buck or who expect to buy $500.00 worth of gear for $30.00  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)  Or, those people who expect the vendors to have just what they want even though it's some out of date piece of gear that hasn't been used since before electricity ! ::) ::)

If you're a die hard icefisherman, the show is for YOU !

A question to those of you who have attended on Saturday last year.  Does the Ice show get crowded on Saturdays?  ???  Fridays are not too crowded, one can walk around and get to talk to the various vendors easily.  Although I work out in the Syracuse area (an hour's commute from home) instead of going on Friday afternoon/evening right from work like last year, I thought of coming back on Saturday as I'd like to see several of the seminars scheduled that day.  There are just 2 on Friday.

I am bringing my two young sons. They are excited too. I am hoping we can all learn a bit. How's the food?

Saw Pikulski at Johnson City on Saturday. He is a real down to earth guy, and provides alot of real world (fish catchin money makin fill your bucket) experience. I will seek him out this weekend if he is speaking. Highly reccomend.

I'm going up Friday by 2:30pm and will hang at the show 'till near closing, then to a friends house in Fulton to prepare for deer hunting Saturday morning then back to the show 'till closing. Back to Fulton to crash and back to the show 'till closing Sunday. I'll help friends close out booth(s), then head back to Carlisle. I get off the Thruway at exit 29 in Canajoharie to get out to Rt. 20 and am hoping gfor minimal inclement weather, as if that's gonna happen... ???

Just please be real carefull out there. This could be a dangerous storm even for IceMen.

Trapper2000, the only 2 suits that float(to my knowledge) are mustang survival suits and IDI Arctic Armor.  I have the Arctic Armor and it is very warm and easy to move around in. A friend of mine bought a one piece Mustang suit and he had to take some padding out so it was easier to move around with, but said it was warm also. I would suggest trying both suits on and seeing which one you like the best. just my 2 cents.

I kind of felt the same way. I didn't go to the one last year, so I don't know what has changed. I thought there would be a lot more there. All in all, there really is a lot of stuff there. I think I expected to see more.  ???

I ended up buying a bag full of tip ups (HT type) and a handful of kodiak jigs. Looked for Bean, but didn't see him when I was there. (Not that I know what he looks like, just looked by the Ice Shanty apparel.)

Not a bad show though.  :)

I thought there would be more there. I was looking for a cover for my Nanook, clam wasn't selling anything, and couldn't find anyone else selling them. I also could not find tipup line or steel leaders. I guess I was under the impression I would be able to find anything ice fishing related. On the other hand you could buy pot's and pans, and also tractors.

I went tonight and thought it was pretty good.  It was hard to hear the seminars where they are located on the main floor.  They could put them in the corners and have it a little out of the way.

I'd like to see some more "places to go" type of booths.  There was one guy from Lake Simcoe, that looks really good.

There were 3 or 4 vendors selling IDI Arctic Armour, all for the same price.  (As a matter of fact, I've never seen it for a different price anywhere)   There were plenty of jigs to choose from, and I bought a pocket full.

I also bought a Thorne Bros rod, which is something I would never buy online and I don't see it anywhere in local shops.  The salesguy at Thorne was very knowledgeable and pointed me to the right setup, again something you don't usually find in the local shops.

The representative from Marcum spent 15 minutes with me explaining all the different models and features, even though I told him I already have a x67c and didn't need a new flasher.  But you know I came THIS CLOSE to buying the LX5!!!!  They had a great show special running....

The tractors and pots and pans, I could do without, but they pay for a booth and help make the show run, so they are going to be there.  The young lady at the vacation giveaway booth did have a bit of a wardrobe malfunction  :o so that was another "attraction" ;)

Some of the booths sell, and some of the booths are just showing off product line.  I liked seeing the new stuff from Frabill and a few others, I might not buy it right now, but I know a little more about what's out there, and that is worth the price of admission for me.

If you think about it, there is not as much "gear" as regular fishing or as for hunting.  Most everything ice fishing related was there, and if it wasn't there, it can be pretty easily had at any local shop.

I picked up a few odss n' ends along with five IDI Immersion suits: one for me and my Dear Sweet Other. One for my Grandson Ryan, (first time onto the ice since Iraq), and brother Sean and his son Rusty, Sean went through the ice on a wheeler with friend Donny last year. It was a struggle for Sean to get out and Donny almost didn't without Sean's help. When I mentioned new ice the other day Sean said ''I ain't goin' out there...'' untill I mentioed my getting a suit and telling him about the IDI suits. Then it was ''Get one for Rusty too.'' They'll pay me back but I'm on the hook for three, and well worth it too. I got the Camo with the 'quiet' fleece on the outside so they'll work for hunting too.

The show has stuff I haven't seen yet so I'll be going all three days. Had a good time meeting with Bean from PA and chatting for a while. I'll see who's taking over when I get back from deer hunting in the morning up in the Fulton area. Last hurrah with the shotgun, then it's on to the smokepole for a while.

I went for a one man flip over, and came home with one.  I was able to check out the various ones on display, reps from Frabill and Clam, but one could only buy them from Thorne Bros. or Gander.  Another item I'm happy about was the rack for my snowmobile I picked up.  I've been pondering for quite a while how to make one, but I don't have a welder.  Somebody from Michigan was there with a rack system for both snowmobiles and ATVs, one came home with me   :)

Got to see Dave Genz again and see his seminar, always an honor  Also saw Tony Boshold there from the Icemen TV show, he gave an informative presentation and was a great help with the Marcums and Frabills.

Parking is a rip off at $7, next time I think I'll cruise the streets looking for a parking place.

First off, The people who are putting this on are doing a great job! This was the first time I have been to the show. I guess I had it in my head it was going to be more like the trapping shows I go to (everything imaginable for sale, with a good show price). Don't get me wrong, there are good deals there. I was just disappointed I guess, because the few things I needed to get, I couldn't find. It also botherd me a bit, that Clam wasn't selling anything from their booth. I understand about companies selling to retailers only, but you would think they would have made sure one of their retailers were there with a good selection of product (I did see a few Clam chairs). I may have missed someone selling clam merchandise, but I walked the entire floor about a dozen times, and didn't see what I was after. I will go back next year, but will have a better idea of what I need to pick up before hand.

I can't believe that there are no Clam shelters available for sale at the show.    I believe Thorne Bros. is the dealer there.
This show is more geared towards the major companies showing their new gear to the general public.     The maunufacturers rarely sell direct to the public.    They don't make a practice of stepping on the wholesalers and retailers toes.
I only got a few minutes to walk around and I saw a couple vendors who had several different tip up lines and accessories that someone said they couldn't find.     Having no tip up line at an ice fishing show is like having no food at a buffet line !
As an ice fisherman,if you couldn't find what you were looking for at the show, tou may have been looking for unrealistic deals or just trying top find a reason to complain.
The only real gripe I've heard was that Nils Master wasn't there this year.     They have no product to sell at this time so untiul the next container of goods comes in, everyone from distributors to retailers will have no augers, hali's or other Nils gear  :-\ :-\

The seminars alone are worth the price of admission ! ;)

About 5times the vendors with more tackle would be ideal I had a grand in my pocket to spend and left with over 800
I'd like to see more vendors as well but not national compaines.   A handful of local and/or independent manufacturers/companies would be nice for the show and it would also show that Ice Fishing isn't a Minnesota thing only !
Unfortunately, the booth prices aren't cheap for these small operations.   It sure would be nice though !

More huge, national retailers at the show would just clutter things up.    They'd all carry the same products at basically the same prices so you'd walk around in circles all day and still pay the same price.

The show is growing.    That's a good thing !!

I have yet to attend but am seriously considering it today.

My fishing buddy went last year and picked up an Ice Armor suit and he loves it.  I was considering the same but then I here of the IDI suit.  What is it? i really want to replace the old Carharts and Marlboro coat with something quality, waterproof and warm.

Thorn does have clams and Frabill for sale just not last night...the truck showed up after the show started and the product was stuck out on the dock with no one to move it in. Gander had "limited styles" of clams there as well for sale, but you had to ask and they would go out back a pull it in on a cart, Gander was not offering a "show special price". I wanted a Frabill one man and could not find one to buy, the units on display where not for sale except one that had a sold sign on it, according to "Bro". He said you had to buy from the vendors and I could not find one who had product on the floor, so I came home shelterless. I did end up with a new MarCum VS625SD from the Krugerfarm booth for a good price but realized when I got home they put the wrong charger cord in my box. I bought the last VS625SD they had (display unit) this was within an hour of the doors opening. I'm not sure how you come from St. Paul with 4 MarCum cameras to sell and think you got it covered for inventory. I have been to every show so far and I will go back next year. This show seemed disjointed compared to the past shows, I think it had to do with manufacture/vendor relationships.

There is some confusion this year but it'll straighten out.    With Strikemaster no longer affiliated with Clam and Ice Team, some people were confused as to where their products were.
With the addition of more vendors, space is very limited so the retailers have to keep their large items out of the area and retrieve them as sold.   It's unfortunate that it ended up this way but it's also a sign that this show needs to be moved into the Center of Progress building at the NYS Fair Grounds next year.

Just got back... grabbed an Otter Wild 2 shelter for $350 (show special price.... screw Gander Mtn.), some Maki's and other odds and ends.  They could make some room by getting rid of the Florida vacation and bathroom vendors that have nothing to do with ice fishing.

I ended up ordering a Nils auger from Cabelas a couple of weeks ago when they were running a free shipping special.

Light crowd (That ain't good).  Thorn Bros. had a checkout line that was continuous; needed two checkouts.
Found some really good deals on rods and rods and lures.  Put the seminars in a separate room/area.
Great meeting some of the IS crew there. Dacker, Cheeks, RG, F&R, Hammer, HT (you are bigger than I was lead to believe ;) ).  Great time!

Had to have the shelter, like I needed another one.
I thought 7 bucks for parking wasn't too bad, I pay more than that down town Buffalo.

Ow! I hope they don't make the ticket-person make up the difference in the cash register; they don't earn that much to begin with.

Does anyone know where I can look at/purchase the Ice armor parka that Clam has on their website this season. It's supposed to be the same thing as the Blue suit parka without having to buy the suit complete (and there are a couple of color choices)

It was good to put some faces with the names at the IS booth today.

Good luck to all this season

I took my two sons and a friend to the show. I picked up a sack full of Maki plastics, a bunch of jigs, and some small stuff. I enjoyed what I got to see of the seminars.

I finally decided to buy an IDI suit. I have been going back and forth for months. I had pretty much made up my mind last weekend in Johnson City, but waited until the show to buy it. I really wanted to be able to try them on and size them. I finally did, and got it in my head that I wanted the camo suit, for the extra few bucks. I checked with the different vendors, and a couple were offering promos with the sale of a suit. I decided I needed a good pair of gloves more than a bag or whatever....... so bought it. Got home tonight and pulled it out of the bags............to find two parkas, and no bibs. I am a couple hours from Syracuse, and now have to wait for my invoice to be emailed before I can even let somebody know that there is a problem. I was really hoping to wear them on the ice Tuesday.

I did stop by the IS table and sign in, although the only person I met was Raquettedacker. Poor guy was there for HOURS!

I will go again next year, not that there were any spectacular deals, but because there is SO MUCH to actally put your hands on. I was there from ten until four and I know I didn't see everything I might have liked.

I pay alot more than seven bucks a day for parking at some of my worksites, and six dollar admission seems like a pittance, and certainly so, since both of my kids were free.

I hope all had a good time!

I attended Friday, an earlier post tells that I spent about $500 on a new Clam flip up and snowmobile rack, plus some assorted goodies.  In retrospect, comparing last year's show with this year's, this year I missed the little booths with the guys hawking various little gems like the plastic jig discs or shanty anchors.  This year's show had the feel of the big guys in control.  I may have saved a bit on both the big items I bought, but I still missed all the little gizmo booths.

As far as parking, $7 in the lot is pricey, $3.50 for 2 hours in the garage not much better as I spent 5 hours there on Friday.  I find myself enjoying the seminars and agree with someone's earlier post that they're worth the money just for them.

The show has been alot of fun so far and turn-out has been great! Sure there has been some issues and everyone dosnt have all the products they would like to have.
But just seeing the turn-out chatting with and helping all the folks in the TB area has been awesome. Showed alot of rods, jigs, and stuff to some super nice folks!
The growth each year has been tremendous and that is big! Grow and learn...

Not a big fan of paying more to park than going to an activity, but definitely not going to cheat someone out of their buck. The other day the misses and I picked up our xmas tree. 5 miles down the road we each thought the other paid, turned around and went back. It's a nice family business we always get our tree from, I appreciate the experience they provide and it would have gnawed at me knowing I cheated them.

(snowmobile rack from Johnston Outdoors was pretty cool and the aluminum huts from the guys from Maine.) We traveled from Olean area. Was quite a ride, but think it was worth it. Met some nice people, beautiful day.  Raquette dacker was manning the booth. Wanted to pick up a hoodie from IS, ran out of money. Will definately go again next year and plan the whole day around it.  Checked out all elec. and power augers. Ended up stopping at Bass Pro, they had a great sale. Picked up an Eskimo Z51, with a cover for 296.00 plus tax. Great day, Great week-end. Tight Lines, Safe Ice and a Merry Christmas to All....  ;D

[/quot

gerryb:  There was some confusion when I bought the last VS620 cam at Kruger Farms also. I now wonder if I got the right charger???? I will check it out and see, I <MAY> have gotten your charger as the sales guy that packaged the display unit up had 3 different charging units and got 3 different answers from Marcum rep and the guy taking payments, and the other sales rep there. I hope they did me right.......

went to the ice show today and paid 6$ for parking.  I stood in the ticket line stewing about it getting ready to pay another 6$ for admission.  I hand the man a 20 and he gives me change for a 50 ;D needless to say The oncenter bought me some jigs today.  Thank you syracuse!

People like you give the rest of us a bad name... So much for the bumper sticker that says " Kids who hunt and fish don"t mug little old ladies " ....

Generally , people who b*tch about paying 7 bucks to park , dont b*tch about paying that much for a pack of smokes, thus the reason to park by the front door vs. walk a block or two and park for free.

Also some of these same people have top line equipment and drive late model trucks.   Just sayin

... hit the show yesterday (Chi and I)– definitely a worthy run (‘bout 5 hour round trip for us) it’s a first time for me, but – for anyone who spends any kind ‘a time on the ice, it was a must do … there’s no way, you’re going to see “that” many people, all in one place, at one time who enjoy what we do, at all levels of enjoyment, and involvement … Just great to meet all the new people, (vendor reps / suppliers / and IS members) and run into a few people I haven’t seen in a while from the other side of the state, who made it …

… What did I bring home with me? … aside from the few expected items I purchased … a full belly of Dino Ribs – and plenty of personally made contacts … Priceless !

At frabill if you are looking for the top of the line single thermal it is as low as it can get and was the last one yesterday afternoon Talked with Brian Brohsdahl for an hour about the product lines ,fishing, travel, beer ,Dinosaur BBQ . He put on a good sales pitch for that last single thermal . If I was flush with cash I would have went home with it.

That $30 you stole wasn't compliments of the Oncenter.  It was stolen from the show promoter, who takes the time and effort to produce the show and bring it to Syracuse.  Either way I believe that karma will prevent any fish from being caught on those jigs you bought with that $30.  Funny how things work out sometimes....steal $30, and you'll pay $3000 in retribution, give $30 and you receive $3000 in rewards.  That's my experience anyways......

GerryB: They got the right charger in my unit (Phewww!), they sure had a big ol' time trying figure out which one was the correct one!  After looking at the connections, I don't see how they could have given me the wrong one, just a red wire and a black wire with female plugs. The other 2 chargers they had "left over" had a single round plug on the end.
Hope you get yours straightened out without too much hassle.

Otto,

You're right about the karma.  Yes, the guy at the gate made a mistake, but it was an honest mistake, and that should have been met with honesty and returned.   A couple years back, I foolishly put $300 in my pocket while at the Orlando Airport on the way back home.  Well, as luck would have it, I must have pulled out my handkerchief, and unbeknownst to me, the $300 must have hit the floor.  Anyway, the karma you're speaking of, somebody needy must have gotten it, but God repaid me many times over.  I got a monetary award at work and won a large raffle which equaled 10 times what I lost.

They should change the name to the " The Thorne Brothers Show "There were a lot of vendors there with displays  but nothing for sale, they said Thorne Brothers were selling their products, including Jason mitchell and Northland ,If they are going to do that they should add a few more check out registers, the line at Thorne brothers was impossible. It would of also been nice if they had some food vendors.I thought there were some good prices if you did your homework,I purchased a Himminbird 55  for $50.00 less then advertised with a $ 50.00 mail in rebate,$100.00 saving.I also got a magnum sled for $125.00 , regular price was $169.00.Next year they could leave out the PU trucks, pots and pans and bathroom vendors , I think when they can't fill the hall they drag these guys in.
I thought the hard side aluminum shanty's were sweet

I finally got there for the last couple of hours on Sunday.  For the record, the vendors seemed very willing to haggle on Sunday just before closing.  Although there would be no guarantee they have what you're looking for at that point.  I thought it was very well done, and the vendors I spoke with seemed to feel it was worth their time and effort to be there.  Picked up a nice pair of bibs at a much better price than I have seen elsewhere.  Only thing on my wishlist would be to have a Heritage stand with the full array of products at or below retail.  Definitely no complaints though, many thanks to the folks who worked so hard to put this event on for us!

I really enjoyed the show. :) First time there.  Met a few fellow Ice shanty members, that I had not met before. I got several things there that I would not be able to buy in my area also.  Would have to order them or go an hour or better to get them. Enjoyed seminars but they could have them in a separate room but I'm sure that would cost more.   Parking and admission was not out of line for cost.  Go to a football game or hockey, or baseball game :o ouch!   Of course, I love anything about ice fishing! ;D ;)

Is it just me, or was the show better LAST year? Not as many booths (although Thorne Brothers and FISH 307 were bigger  with more product), no Christian Brothers Brandy give-a-ways, and two booths I always like to shop weren't there. Also, I didn't see the Iceshanty.com booth. Was there one? Disappointed for the 6 hour round trip, and expenses, price of gas being what it is. Got a few little bargains, but not up to last years quality of a show. I'm retired and every penny counts. Oh well, maybe next year will be better.

First time to the show for me. Thought it was pretty decent. Went Saturday only to return again sunday  ???.
Got a killer  :o deal on a new Otter from Kruger's, a bunch of Maki's, buckshot's and a new set of mittens for wifey. The only disappointment was 1) the line at Thorne Bros (that program needs repair for next year) and 2) not meeting any of you guys at the IS booth. I walked by several times saturday and the booth had been abondoned   ::)....well maybe not abondoned as much as left for a "minute" while shooting the s**t   :-\.
also would have been cool  if I could have joined the IS militia at the show.
Look forward to a bigger and better show next year and meeting some of you guys on the ice.

I was there all three days and met some of the IS crew which was a treat getting to talk about stuff. I didn't know there'd be a shortage of crew to man the booth or I'd have volunteered some time myself. It was a good show and worth my trip out there.

I was hoping to see Shane there too but missed due to unscheduled cramping problems from the new Chemo Program they got me on.

I'm already looking forward to next year. I did get the IDI Immersion suits I was looking for though, and while not quite the bargain I was hoping for I now have peace in mind for the folks who won't sink if they go through like my grandson, wife, myself, and friends.

Oh you'll go on "vacation" but you'll have to be pichted a high priced/high pressure timeshare for 4-5 hours.  If you can say no without feeling gulty, sometimes it kinda works out.  Done it before and said no, no, no, no, got my vouchers to red lobster/Disney (whatever) and said no again, and again.

Don't say yes, be the 10% that gets all the free crap without blowing 30K-40K on a useless timeshare with $500 a year maint fees

:roflmao: :roflmao:  One of the biggest scams!  They get you down to their place and "give you a key" to see if it "fits" the "winning door".  (Or something like that).  Had a buddy last year that fell for it.  It's a way to get you into a high-pressure sales pitch situation.
