Title: Hair Jigs for Gills
Post by: Mikey B on Feb 05, 2008, 03:51 PM
Me and the grandson fished a farm pond this past Sunday, and it seemed like the only thing we good get the gills on were small 1/80 oz. black hair jig. Tried 5 or 6 diferent colored ice jigs, without much success, before i tried the hair jig.

Anyone else fish these ? do you tie your own? or store bought ?       THANKS

Around here that what they like as soon as its hard. That seems to be the only time that they bite on mine (then they get smart). I tie and buy, i tie purple, white and black, because thats all that i have for hair, then buy the chartruse and other colors. I tie big bucktails for 'eyes too.

What kind of hair do you use on your gill jigs? the ones we used had rabbit hair, cut of a zonker strip. Quick and easy to tie, and cheap. Tied a couple up using calf tail, but haven't used them yet, because of all the rain we got, the ice is going Bye-Bye.
