I need to get some smaller jigs like size 14 or smaller. Which one would you go with?
-
Whichever turns your fancy. They're both good and do their job as do Wolframs, Bentleys and those from Sportsman Direct. Not so much the brand as it's how you're presenting it to them
-
Some days they want a bigger jig and sometimes a smaller one, like Swift said its mostly in presentation!
-
Yeah i got down to size 12 and caught a few. You could tell they wanted tiny baits. Think the diamond jig might be what im leaning towards
-
my smallest gill jigs are eights....was fishing six today on heavy jigs....smoken em....
-
Yeah i used 8 10 12 and started to get a few here an there on the 12. But they wouldnt touch anything else
-
May be the area but the base/start size in my area is #14. Possibly may go larger if Crappies and Perch are in the area or the bulls are into minnows, but usually have to go smaller when chasing primarily big 'gills. Probably the primary natural food source size. #20s and 8oz line can be a little intimidating, but is the answer sometimes

Gonna start experimenting with smaller jigs. Got some small plastics on the way and think i located some 14 jigs!
-
the gill pill has a smaller profile, so i like to use it when the gills aren't biting as aggressively. also it kind of swims out a bit to one side on the drop because of the flat bottom.
when i need a straight drop, i fish either a diamond jig or northland's new tungsten fireball jigs. i'm considering switching to the CJ&S majmun tungsten jigs due to poor barbs on the fireballs
-
i love both but the gillpill has gotten my larger gills (hence the name)
-
I use a size 12 jig for bluegills and trout.
-
Now on all these jig sizes, are we talking the size of the hook?
-
Yes, with the body being smaller in turn
-
I wish I could find some smaller ( like 3mm or 4mm) tungsten jigs with bigger hooks ( like #10 instead of 14).
-
I'd settle for a slightly longer shank and a finer wire hook on some of these "CLONES" that have come out lately. Wolframs hanging angle (45* down) and weight per size are what most are patent rights avoiding for there copying. Change the hook style, size is fine, maybe a true horizontal Tungsten jig and have some major sales

I've used both. And my thoughts are they are both very effective.
