DIY Live Bait Tank help.
« on: Jan 17, 2019, 06:29 PM »
Good Evening all, i would like to make an inexpensive bait tank involving a cooler, im looking into either a 48 qt or 52 qt cooler. My current method is not doing well at all, due to the very cold temps. My bucket is freezing and killing off a few fish everyday, i do have an aerator, and i do change the water every other day. Any guidance as to what coolers would work well would be much appreciated.

thanks, and tight lines everyone!

I keep my bait in a large cooler in an unheated outbuilding. I have an aerator stone and this filter from Walmart https://www.walmart.com/ip/Tetra-Whisper-10-30-Gallon-Internal-Power-Filter-for-Aquariums/10291763. This setup has worked well for several years. I also use Better Bait or Finer Shiner and change water every couple of weeks. I have virtually no bait loss. Don’t feed and keep water very cold. The filter is enough to keep water from freezing.
