A jiggin Rapale with a minnow head on one treble is always a good start. Other better ideas with be chimed in i'm sure though.

Swedish Pimple with a fathead on one hook of the treble. If you're after BIG walleye, a fathead on each hook of the treble.

..how about a Salmo Chubby Darter in natural perch or minnow color,  and Storm Jigging Minnow,  dunked in Smelly Jelly or piece of minnow on  the trebble hook.

I like the genz worm with the biggest hook and a medium size minnow on it.  The green, orange, and gold colors usually work for me.  Also i like the medium size kastmaster in silver or gold with a minnow head on the trebel hook.

I am usually strictly fishing for bluegills and rarely fish with minnows other than on tip-ups so when you use just the head of the minnow how do you hook it?

Thanks

I am a jigging rapala fan for walleyes. Other swim lures like the nils master jiggers and shads, salmo chubby darters, bad dog lures humpback, and storm's new jigging soft minnow work as well.
I use a #5 mostly because we have smaller baitfish here in Colorado, generally the fry of other gamefish. If you have larger baitfish where you are going like smelt, ciscoes, shad, or alewives, start with a bigger #7. Tip these lures on the treble with the smallest minnow head you can find so you don't interfere with the action. A small minnow or perch eye works great too. Honestly though often I don't tip these lures when after walleyes. It really often isn't neccessary but a tough bite can make it so. And generally I wouldn't be caught dead fishing other baits for other fish without natural bait on the lure.
The #3 and #5 work best on 6 pound line. The #7 swims slower and wider, therefore better, on 12 pound mono. I only use the heavier line to give the swim bait a better action.

Swedish pimple in blue and chrome, blaze orange and chrome in a variety of sizes work well on lake Erie along with jigging rapalas.  Buckshot jigs and cicadas also work well.  All tipped with minnows,  some days 3 minnows others only one minnow.Go figure!!

I have had good success with a Custom Jigs and Spins Demon with a minnow hooked between the dorsal fin and the tail for a dead stick rod and a jigging spoon (Swedish pimple is good) tipped with a minnow head on the jigging rod.

Hands down, no contest for me- Gamakatsu hook, red or chartreuse with a live silver shiner.... it's all you need! My favorite is combined with a slip bobber

Not enough ice or time... not necessarily in that order.

Hey to all of walleye fisherman,
Two years running, all I have used is a treble hook with two medium minnows on it.  Works like a dream and this year doesn't seem to be any different. My favorite saying. keep it simple.

You just let them swim around fighting each other?
Interesting...

Mostly through the back, Because I have found that the walleye will suck the minnows in from the back end of the minnows and that way they mostly get hooked.

Its kind of wierd because I have always been told that they always suck in from the front.  Not only that but then hook them opposite from each other then it makes them look like they are "Fighting" I guess the walleye like that too.  might go out sunday.  Good luck and keep safe.

swedish pimple or kastmaster, sometimes topped with a minnow head or tail on the treble hook.
