Gardner Lake
« on: Jan 20, 2019, 03:30 PM »
Fished Friday and Saturday from 3pm to 7pm.  Had 1 short eye and a couple of perch.  The ice wasn't great on Friday and I was by myself so I didn't go to far from the ramp.
Saturday I ventured down the beach a few 100 yards and was rewarded with my first short eye of the season.

I was just out this evening, there was a good 6-7”. I didn’t check by the island. But many people were all around it. It was a busy evening flags flying non stop. The wife and son had a blast chasing flags.

Nice, crazy how fast that made ice, my friend told me 7 inches and I didn't believe it lol. How late do you guys typically stay out there for walleye? Will they bite all night long?

Heard report it was 15 feet of water between the shore and ice. I was planning on checking it out this evening, but not planning on fishing it until mid next week when temps lock things up again.

I would go check it yourself, 15 ft of water is a lot. It had 7-8 inches that doesn't just disappear.

I just checked it out, ice was 4-5” thick. Takes a bit of jumping to get onto the main sheet from the beach, or you can jump from off the end of the dock.

It was brutal out there this evening. But the ice was solid 5”. The edges are still thin, so use the planks at the end of the dock for getting on the ice.

For temps like these, everyone young to old should have some kind of shelter to get warm in with a heat source.

While we're on the topic, I feel like checking for ice safety is even more important with this weather. Even getting a leg wet could mean a trip to the hospital. With these temps wet clothes can freeze solid within 5 minutes
The BIG one is just one flag away!

Species caught : largemouth, smallmouth,  bluegill, perch, White perch, crappie, trout, catfish, bowfin, pickerel, pike

Yup, this cold can become dangerous quick. Shelter and heat is a must.

Need to take mom to the Dr. this afternoon, assuming it doesn't take too long it's off to the lake before dark. Walter is in there, I hear them calling.
