Title: Marten Cr. Drowning
Post by: slickice on Feb 09, 2024, 06:18 PM
Just got word from a reliable source in Trout Creek that search & rescue along with FG are trying to retrieve a body from Marten Creek.  I guess he went through the ice last night.  His sled and gear were still on the ice with a big hole near by.  He was alone and about 70 years old.  This is second hand news but I'd classify my friend as reliable. :( :(

That really is too bad. That can be a really tough access point, especially with these El Nino seasons.

Well, here's one to him  R.I.P., sir.

Be safe out there, folks. Remember, spud bars/ ice chisels can help save yer life.

as I get longer in the tooth and my health diminishes, I hope that I go doing something I love and not in some hospital bed. Rest in Peace Marten

RIP to him. The details of that story are unfortunately repeated all too frequently. Responders see the gear on the ice, but nobody fishing and a large hole through the ice which makes it obvious then what happened.

My use of a PFD in the past 5 years has increased dramatically when venturing onto the ice. Unless I see multiple people already safely on the ice covering the area I intend to fish, if the temperatures have been unreilable to keep growing the ice, my PFD stays on until I have walked the entire area I plan to fish that day

Warrior, yup..... right on. When I turned 70 my bride said "You go out and but one of those float suit things!" So I did. Spendy but well worth the peace of mind. Also very warm. It is a great safety investment and gives both of us peace of mind.

I've been meaning to buy some float bibs, with weird weather/ice this year it's probably time to do it.
