I had to go get a air filter for my four wheeler yday and I noticed that Goodyear lake was beginning to freeze from the dam all the way over to the cove and up the river channel. Just a observation.

I know I risk things with the best of em. With the wind today and the rain with warm temperatures does not do ice any good.
ANYONE WHO IS GOING TO SCOUT THIS WEEKEND AND/OR TRY TO FISH SOMETHING.
BE CAREFUL!! Tell someone where your going and try not to go alone.

Best wishes, good luck, stay safe.

Village pond was locked up yesterday morning. Didn't have a spud or picks so I didn't test it. Looked like a little under 2" near the edge. Today's weather 50* and raining which won't help!

I was open water fishing last year on Jan 8th at George

Didn't have my first ice pics till Jan 23rd and I think it was from Schroon.

With 40-60 winds and temps it's hard for ice to form hopefully soon the weather pattern will change and we can get a nice long deep freeze with not much snow and light winds and get a couple months of good hard water fishing

My prediction was right, kinda... I made it out the first weekend of December but now I'm predicting my second first ice trip. Hopefully I'll be back out shortly after Christmas.

My original prediction was to be on ice the 23rd   Sadly, that doesn't look promising  I know I started this thread but  I can't find the rules page on the subject.  Can I change that to the 28th?

I'm throwing in for 12/26 near the High Peaks region. Making the trip whether there's 3" or not. I'll bring the snowshoes for a Plan B.

Feel like it’s going to be similar to last season again. Mid to lat January on bigger lakes, February pretty decent.

monday after xmas!  I'm sure the dacks has plenty of small waters fishable now after having a few chilly nights. Right now xmas dictates all my comings and goings.  Look out Monday here I come.  Gonna be some gills and craps in the fryer

Checked out a slew of lakes today. Brant, Eagle, Paradox, Eaton, Durant, and Adirondack. Brant isn’t walkable yet. Small end of Eagle is good. Paradox you can get on but I didn’t venture far due to sketchiness of ice. Looked thin and before that I went through too easily with my bar. Fished Eaton with my jig rod for 20 mins or so. My real purpose of the day was just to scout. Durant and Adirondack are fishable. It varied with ice thickness in each lake but was consistent 3.5 to 4 inches plus. Durant definitely has more than all at least where I checked but I only bust through with my bar  which took about 10 good solid hits. Be careful out there only Durant and Adirondack have snow cover

Finally scratched that itch today. It felt wonderfully intoxicating to get on ice although I found out how frustrating it is going to be to put back a slew of 9 1/2" crappie. My 8 fish that would have made a swell dinner for two was reduced to 4 fish when I had to adhere to that stupid 10" rule. The weather was great and I left a couple chubs on the ice for the eagle.

If we don't get good ice until January... climate change!

If we do get ice in November... climate change!

And if I don't get a deer this season...  ;D

I think the mosquitos are going to unbearable unless we get some cooler weather. I've got one stand in a little hilltop woodlot between the fields that may be my go to for a while.  It was like this last year if I recall correctly.
