Gonna be another windy one today. Be willing to bet it opens her right back up what little ice had formed… back to the little lakes

I seen people on the Sylvan cam. I asked about conditions on a ice forum. I live two hours away. If I was at the lake I would give a update or a report. I check ice no matter what someone tells me. Guys a degenerate ass clown.

People on here have given honest, truthful ice conditions, then been ridiculed or called a liar by the same people that ask because they look at a cam and don't believe them ....so why should he (or anyone) bother ....Everyone has been reporting that parts of the lake are still wide open .... if you know Oneida  then you know that a simple wind shift can make "safe" ice dangerous ice in a matter of minutes.  If you look at the cam and see ice, and you hear other people say parts of the lake are open - that is your answer - what is it you want ??  Make the ride and let us know what you find....or not ....

If someone does not believe part of the lake remains open, just look at the Chapman Park webcamhttps://owc.enterprise.earthnetworks.com/OnlineWeatherCenter.aspx?aid=7300. All you see is open water.  I drove around part of the lake Tuesday thinking I may be able to fish. Saw a few people fishing Lower South Bay near open water. Checked Williams park, ice was not good there for access. It appeared the fishermen accessed the area from the Yacht Club. I am not a member and the fishing looked limited there to me. Checked Phillips Point, nobody there as the ice was broken up with patches of open water. Went further down the north shore and everywhere I looked, either broke up ice with patches or open water, (Taft Bay, Bernhard Bay, Cleveland, Godfrey Point and Jewell). Ya, I could have gone to Sylvan Beach, but with the project wind I was concerned that what ever ice was there could shift and leave me stranded on the ice. Look at the Sylvan Beach cam when i got home and when the wind increased, everyone exited the ice quickly.  Believe what you want, but I agree fishing Oneida Lake with open water can be dangerous.

Guys fishing off the beach, anyone have a ice report? Would be much appreciated

Use the link here - Chapman looking north. Lewis point to your right. South launch to your left. Pretty much open today. Waves a rolling two days ago. Stay on top.

If your not a member of the yacht club you risk getting towed and they aren’t joking

I probably should go out and do an ice check for the out of towners, that's my responsibility right. Stay tuned!

Please do. And while your out could you find out what bait the good eaters want and what color they are going after best.
O yea could you also catch my 5 limit and put it on a stringer for me. Lol

1/16" of good black ice covered by 1/2" white ice out to the anchor ice flow. Few large open gas holes. Shad raps trolled at 1.5 mph was the ticket. Managed 4 limits of perch and eyes. The fillets are in a cooler at Lewis Point parking lot, Get em while you can won't last long.

Trap, yes, I’ve used them. Thanks again!! Caught 4 big bass on them yesterday. 😁 That chain adds a little chatter and a natural kind of attraction to the lure when jigged. I see them doing a number on the perch and walleye…. When I get a chance to get on some good ice. Headed north on Monday.

KP the perch I caught last Monday  95% of them came on the decoy including the 3 eyes I took the chains off but I  saved them
The other 5% came on a no 3 rap
I really like how far the decoys  can be drifted where most can’t ,

Thanks kp. I just got mine while I did an ice check at Lewis. I was able to make it out 6.735” onto the .45” ice mat it’s looking good just need to keep the out of towners off it.

I personally don’t like giving early or late ice reports , as conditions change and some take it as gospel, ice rarely is uniform , and I see to many just walk out without any safety equipment like chisels or picks , not everyone uses good judgment , I’ve seen guys walk across thin ice because someone else was out there that I wouldn’t set foot on as my chisel went through with 1 strike
Even my good friends whom I trust  give  me reports I’m still checking it just my.02
