Title: Puppet minows, jigging Raps, and the like.....do you bait the lure?
Post by: DakotaElkSlayer on Dec 04, 2016, 08:17 PM
So when using lures like the jigging Rap, do you folks bait the treble?  All the time or does it depend on the species you are chasing?

We remove the treble, and fish the Rap bait free.

If the fish are responding aggressively I don't use bait. If they are a bit timid I will add a minnow head or an eye ball.

When I fished on the Saginaw River, there was a guy that swore by not putting anything on the treble. He said it killed the action. Not sure if it really did or not, but he always outfished me when I had a minnow head on. Since then I have not used a minnow head, and have caught plenty of fish without. In all honesty I am not sure it matters, some days they want the head, other times they don't.

for walleye it depends. if they are aggressive you don't need bait, but if they are touchy a minnow head on the treble helps
