Another Nice 'Bow
« on: Mar 03, 2006, 07:32 AM »
Got this one yesterday, pretty much the same place and same method as before with the others, over the past week. This one took a little more time to land. The red part of the gaff handle is 24 inches, for a size comparison. I caught and released three browns too, all 14-15 inches, holding out for a second rainbow (which never came). Great day, obviously. Still I was there from a little after 5:00 AM to a little after 2:00 PM, so "earned them", to put it mildly.-Jim

Small piece of nightcrawler on a tip-up, set five feet down in about 8 feet of water. Fish hit about 7:00 AM.  -Jim

Jim,
i have a question.
when you see the flag go off do you just let them run with it for a bit?
or do you just run over and set hook?

They usually drop the bait within 5-10 seconds, if that answers your question! Run isn't the word,...it's usually run-slideee-dive for that flag ASAP! Still, I'm lucky if one in three is still there when I get to the tip-up. So I jig very near my tip-ups almost nonstop and catch about half my fish on the jigging rod.  -Jim

I think they kind of look like mealworms
