I was out ice fishing today and rigged a medium action rod with a 4 ice rainbow smelt hooked with a size 4 (or 6) red octopus hook in the back by the dorsal. The fish were coming in and slamming this bait but they couldn't get the hook set.
Wondering If I'm hooking it in the right place. and any other tips would be awesome as today was the first time using live bait.
