Title: Western SD ice.
Post by: fishm_n on Sep 14, 2017, 01:36 AM
I'm getting excited! Found a new perch pond I can't wait to try out. But have some huntin to do first.  It would be fun to have a first ice, contest....  as in first person to fish through ice and catch while standing on ice? ...  when will our first day be?

My wife killed an antelope in flip flops a couple weeks age. See says she's going to get and elk to that way. But it does look like T-shirt weather for that as well.

Does she hunt crocodiles too?  And an elk the same way? Must be in Cali?

Which state is the elk tag in? Want help?

We are by Gillette WY. We had 4 tags, 2 each. Wife managed to get an elk Friday morning wearing shorts. Too much cactus around so she had to wear boots. Two elk Friday calves and two giant cows on Sunday. I can barley move today, got stuck once, flat tire. Normal weekend.

Another couple days of that weather and I think I would've been on some smaller ponds. Soon!

Most of our small sloughs in NE sodak were froze over with a skim layer this weekend.  The water is ready it wont be long.  My guess is we will be on small sloughs in 3 weeks in NE sodak.

The small ones in SE had skim almost to the shore everywhere. Just a few small spots of open water left. Then it rained.

Back for Christmas break Dec 5th (out of state college student). Hoping to have a full month of ice fishing...been checking the weather in Hill City every day. Looking good! Would love to see another countdown this year--count down the days, talk about lakes, goals for the season, etc!

That's a good idea. I used to start it every year but the last few years I was working a lot. This year I'm gonna make up for lost time. I'll get a one month thread going.
