Drum roll....

6 to 9 inches. I drilled several holes out to almost the middle of the lake off the big turnouts, and the range was 7-9 inches. About 3-4 clear and the rest was white but good and solid. About 4 inches of snow on top and going to be a slushy mess here soon. I also stopped down at the boat launch and there were a couple old timers coming back to shore. They said it was 6 inches, with about 3-4 clear. I was surprised because usually that end has more ice. I would fish it this weekend if I wasn't headed to Fort Peck here in about 2 hours

So, for those discussing where to go on this ice shanty meet and greet, I'd say it's good to go. I'm not the organizer of that, I'm still not entirely sure I'll be able to make it.

As many folks know, there are air pockets out there so the ice is variable. Also, the very far north end has open water, but I've never heard much of the fishing on that end. The standard precautions are always a good call.

Anyways, that's the report. I'll put a note on the conditions page, since that's where it should go.

Well looked up the info on the swan lake it looks like lots of different kinds of fish. Not sure of the area we will be fishing and type of fish to target? Any help out there? Guess just bring everything I have. Not sure on bait also. We can get live bait in seeley I hope?

Im in the same boat perchman...never been. I was just going to load up and bring it all. Pretty sure there is no live bait though.

Just worms and wax worms no other live bait, no more bull trout fishing seems how they are gill netting all the breeders

Probably want to have tip-ups, a heavier jigging rod and a lightweight jigging rod.

I'm not sure how much you guys fish swan? I know of some big fish in their, but it's not like a Great Lake for a trip, unless it's new close water to you,that I can see

So what is the plan guys? Where's the meet'n'greet gonna happen and all the particulars... I think my son and I are coming from CFalls...meet at the boat ramp? On the Ice? I don't have a wheeler or a sled so I'll be hoofin' it.

With the air holes out there and now a skiff of snow on top not sure I would take a 4-wheeler out there, Maybe a snowcat. Be cafeful!

On 1/19 walked 1.3 miles to the southeast part of the lake caught 3 bull trout and two perch about11 inches. I'm still figuring this lake out. Also checked some depths off the second big turnout and found koke blood from some previous fishermen at 127FOW. Such a big lake to explore. I assume there's probably fish to catch closer to the boat launch but from people I've talked to it's mostly bulls they're catching by the lake houses. Wish I knew more. Still have the date open.

I nailed some nice fish but good luck , I grew up on this lake and love that its so quiet, so few spots that produce
