Deer Lake (Pond, South Schuylkill)
« on: Jan 19, 2024, 06:41 PM »
This summer they drained the lake to reinforce the dam at the south end of the pond. Needless to say it was a feeding frenzy out there, the fish were boiling next to the damn for a full day, it's only 5 ft there when full.
Does anyone know how long it would take to recover from that? Is it even worth checking out the ice? I know there's a few other guys who go out there, I don't want them wasting their time.

I drive past Deer Lake often and always thought it was a private lake. I have always found that after a lake draw down for a dam repair that the fishery takes awhile to recover. Also,  the first couple years the fish will be stunted if they stock it heavy. If they are waiting for natural reproduction, expect less fish but some can grow quite fast due to low competition.

Appreciate the feedback. The lake is open to fishing, it gets very popular in the summer. Winter time you can park just off 61 by the lower dam, best/deepest area is over there.
