Crystal Lake - 1/2/15 Update
« on: Nov 20, 2014, 01:50 PM »
Not quite a first hand report here, but I drove by and there were 3 out fishing at noon today.  I'm not sure on ice thickness, but for those itching to get out, this looks like it might be feasible.  They were getting close to where the dredge started, so they were out there a ways.

From what I've heard, 3-4 inches and pike fishing

Nice to know!  I looked at the lake yesterday on the DNR site, and it shows what they've stocked in the recent years!  Should be quite a few pike out there from what they've stocked, depending on the death rate of them.  We fished it a TON last year, nothing but crappie, blue gill, and one 14" bass.  Heck, I've never seen anything else pulled out of there through the ice.

I would guess about 6" this morning, pretty sloppy on top this evening leaving.

Any luck?  I drove by this morning, no one was on the ice, but it did look solid again.  I'm sure the top inch or so is crap though!  Hopefully we'll build some solid ice during this cold snap and should be good for the winter!  Which reminds me, I gotta get down my ice fishing stuff yet.  Heck, I'm not even sure where my Vex is...or even my vex charger..hhmmmm....

It was slow.  Two crappie, a cat, and small Northern.

Crappie are okay, nothing huge.
There are northern in the lake, but I'm not sure if many guys actively fish for them.
No perch in this lake, at least none that have been stocked.

I haven't been on it YET this year, darn it anyways, and I'm sure the rain the other day didn't do us any favors.  The ice was really effected the last few weeks.   Open water from the boat ramp to pretty much the jettie by the bullhead on the south side of the lake.  If you are going to try to come in, I'd try from the west jettie, which can be accessed by heading out of Crystal Lake to the west, around the big curve, and turning in the driveway in all the trees.

Went to Crystal today, pressure after the system must've shut them off. Caught 2 bluegill in 3 hours. Ice was 5-6" and singing like crazy so should be thicker in a few days.

There were 5-6 houses out this morning when I drove by at 8 AM.  Hoping to get out on it this week...

Went home over my lunch hour, 12 houses on the ice and Kevan Paul's truck and trailer were there.  There were a few guys by the bullhead jettie, out IN the ice, but I think they were doing something, I'm just not sure what.  Anyone have any idea what they were doing or working on?

Saw a picture on the book of face of a limit of crappies, didn't say what part or what they were using just that they caught them at Crystal. With the ice being 5-6" on Sat I'd imagine its around 6-8"now, it was really talking the other day.

They were pulling a snowmobile out of the lake.
If there isn't snow on the ice its probably too thin for power units!! FYI

Well, the aerator, wind, and rain, did have the lake open from the boat ramp to the jettie with the bullhead late last week.  That's probably why most guys were going out from the jettie around the big curve heading west out of town.  Hopefully everyone was okay.

My guess on the crappie's...15-18' of water, fish suspended a few feet off the bottom, that's how they were all of last year.  We used spikes, waxies, and minnow heads occasionally.

it can be hit or miss. the brother-in-law bought some. and had to scrap the bottom of the barrel. and they were large. fishing has been fair. but move alot. sometimes a few feet can make alot of difference on the dredge cuts.
