Crown Point Ice
« on: Jan 27, 2023, 10:43 AM »
Curious if anyone's been out around the bridge yet. I'm up in Burlington, thinking of heading down this weekend if there's ice. Thanks!

I drove by Friday evening and it was barely skimmed over north of the bridge. South of the bridge is locked in but only 3” of white ice immediately off shore. Not worth the risk.

Thanks for the update, WardenAl! Hopefully well get some new ice after this weekend's cold snap.

Smart man.  Ive been on 8-10" near there and open water waves broke it up so fast we had to get off.

Now that’s sketchy! There is a current that moves through that area that can make things nasty real quick. Especially after a snowstorm and a warm winter like it has been.

This morning when I drove by it had skimmed over north of the bridge. By mid morning it was broken up by the wind a couple hundred yards south of the bridge. There were a few guys fishing south of the bridge a ways this afternoon. Not sure how much ice they had but it looked promising.

Is that Arnold's bay? We were launching boats out of there the second week of January, then the fleet moved to Converse Bay, better ramp, easier to sand. Any stiff south winds have probably kept it open.

Nope Arnold’s bay is in panton and tri town is in west Addison. About 4 miles apart on the water. I don’t have any ice reports for that area though. Should have some ice to walk on after this weekend. Checked the ferry and Larabees end of last week and the ice was not fishable. Open water in the middle but starting to catch.

When I was up thay way a few weeks ago Arnolds and the area around it was like the dead sea.  Scanning with livescope for lakers and there was nada.  Burnt some fuel and went elsewhere.

Found some good ice south of the bridge about 7”, but north has just frozen over and is big slabs. Saw a few crazy ones on it and wouldn’t take much for it to break up. Stay safe

Lowaccord I'm heading up to Vermont next week and they're predicting 40's and possible rain.
Do you think there's any ice to fish. You said to took an 8 hour trip to check it so I get it if you
don't want to share. Thanks

Depends where michael.  Im a laker guy and can tell you we wont be ice fishing the good spots for lakers this year.  Up near the border you may be ok but I didnt go that far.  Biggest thing we will see is the ice near crown, bulwagga ect is going to break up more with the wind.  Im hopeful the wind clears it from port henry north so I can take the boat out.

I stayed way down in Windham last weekend and that's where I'm going back to.
I fished Lowell Lake but I can travel around. I've fished Keelers bay ,Lake Dunmore
and South Hero bay in the past but I'm really a trout fisherman in brooks and streams
so any direction would help. thanks

lowaccord66: I saw that ice forming and two days later a couple of guys were on it. They didn’t last long when the wind was blowing and the ice was probably starting to ripple

Have fished a bay where the waves were rolling in from the north and we were going up and down all day.  Have videos on my phone.  Had to back up several times.  If the wind flipped directions we would have been on an ice chunk mid lake somewhere.

I didn’t but I should’ve taken some video when that forming slushy ice and with the wind blowing so cold it had that low fog from temperature differential. Nothing that I would be comfortable on anymore. I like to fish another day.
