How do you power yours
« on: Oct 10, 2019, 01:34 PM »
Hello all, I just picked a old popup camper to convert to a hard sided shanty. My question how does one power it? Deep cell battery, solar, generator? What have you used?

I'd get a 2000Watt generator, if you have an Aldi around you they can be picked up for under $200 on clearance....

I have wanted to do a conversion for a while, but have not been able to source a cheap (free) pop up yet......I do have the generator....paid $179 for it last year....

I would think adding some Energized Outdoor batteries would also be helpful, but could get costly, but they are lighter than SLA......maybe snap a solar panel on the side?

I would think the nice think about a project wheel house would be you could make it whatever your mind and wallet allows.

I power mine with a deep cycle battery. I just use a few lights and a fan to blow the heat down. If your using it as a sleeper shack and or power alot of accessories then a generator is a must. I can fish about 3 days and then take my battery home to charge it. I will be adding a solar charger this year so I wont have to drag the battery around.

Can you overnight in a portable in CO? Hardsides are just not allowed anywhere?

The regs state; Portable ice-fishing shelters (where permitted) must be removed at the end of the day.
I don't know anywhere that they are permitted.
I don't think doing an all-nighter would be much of a problem though.

Are you going to leave it on the ice all the time or haul it out and back quite a bit? I'd do solar and two gp 31's if left on the ice all the time

This year I will be taking it off daily for this season.  The hope is to do an overnight this year as well as get the little ones out on the ice. Got to keep them warm and happy.

Deep cell, solar panel and controller.
Runs led lights, charges phones.
Keeping the battery warm is a big help.

Hello all, I just picked a old popup camper to convert to a hard sided shanty. My question how does one power it? Deep cell battery, solar, generator? What have you used?

A small 2000 watt inverter generator like the champion, yamaha, or Honda that are  quiet. I'd use a deep cell battery for just lights and stuff that would recharge with the generator running. Solar is a very slow charge and can't run many things.

Use anyone of the portable camping generators, they are light weight, inexpensive and quiet.

Deep cycle battery, marine on board battery charger and 1000W inverter generator. LED lights, 12v power ports, computer fans and 110v outlets. Everything uses 12v power except the on board charger and whatever else I power with the generator. I usually usually run the generator for a couple hours at night to watch a movie on my TV and charge the batteries.  Very simple and trouble free.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.
