1-04-10 Fished with Ryan Thompson who lives in California and his dad Mike. We had a pretty good day. Ryan brought home 3 Crappie, 3 Whites, 3 yellows, and a nice laker for his efforts, we let a few others go and had the line snap on a BIG fish the wind blew the leader around a boot and the fish ran and snapped the leader. The big white on the left was 15" and just north of 2.5 pounds. Ryan is getting that Bad Boy mounted for his camp.

1-06-10 Fished with Don and Eric. It was a windy day but we had decent fishing. We landed 8 rainbows from 14-18 inches. Wind was pretty cold on the hands so we snapped a pic or 2 but we didn't get a pic of the bigger ones. They had some great colors on them very shiny in the sunlight.

Had a nice trip today With Steve P and his friends. We got a very late start around 11 am but we had some pretty steady action for a few hours on JUMBO Yellows a couple big whites and some lake trout.
The gang brought out charcoal grills and tons of Lamb Kabobs and vodka (yup they're Russian)

Just look at those giant lamb kabobs, man i am still stuffed hours later.

Those are some Hog Yellows! More on the ground bottom right. The guy lying in the tub may have had a little too much Vodka!!

Fished with 4 great guys today on winni. It was a gift certificate from son to father to get the trip going. we had beautiful weather and even better fishing. The tally was 15 Lakers with one 25+in. hog and a salmon. We had Many more on the jigs that got off before the crew got a real feel for the jig stix and then they really started hitting them hard! Everybody got fish on the jigs and the tip-up.

Here's a pic of the Big Boy

I recieved this after arriving home, this is what makes the work all worth it to me.
Adrien,

Thanks for a tremendous day of hard water fishing . . . I have had the opportunity to enjoy the lakes region for over 48 years. When I was a youngster my father taught me what he knew about ice fishing, we caught a couple over the years. I have spent the past 20 years with my son and nephews getting out on the ice and trying our best to catch fish, again, we caught a couple over the years, so the trend continued and we accepted this as the yield for ice fishing.

Our experience with you on Saturday 16 January 2010 landing 15 lake trout, 1 over 26 inches and the finale with a large salmon that we could see through the black ice as it came to the hole for release before breaking the water line was amazing. . .

Your knowledge, equipment, mentoring, demeanor, and focus for customer satisfaction and fun has energized my son and nephews to deploy your tactics and strategies for catching fish. They are now well equipped for the next generation.

Thanks again for the day and we will see you after ice out for your spring salmon fishing . . .

Hit the lake for the morning with Andrew. Wed had a great morning with a mixed bag of fish. The target was perch and had a couple set for bows. Caught lots of Jumbo yellows and some BIG whites, also picked up an 18 in rainbow at noon.  Some on tip-ups and a lot jigging. Northland Forage Minnow Jigs tipped with smelt pieces was the bait. We must have caught 50 6in. perch and nothing between 6 and 12in. and a bunch of jumbos, it was wierd. Andrew had never caught a white before, let alone a 2.25 pounder on a micro light 41 feet down, he is hooked!!! This was also his first ice rainbow so it was a great day for him all around.

The nice noontime Bow

Fished with Travis and Kevin from Conn. We had a great day on the ice. We landed 15 Lakers and 3 white perch and a couple dozen baby yellows that were annoying but kept us busy.

We got 13 of the lakers on tip ups and 2 lakers jigging. Both on Perch colored bucktails with a smelt on them for bait in 38 fow.

Travis with a nice one.

Fished with Steve P and the Mrs. from Maine today. We had a really nice day to be on the lake. Lakers were on a tea time bite today all coming in groups of 2 or 3 at a time with big lulls in between. We iced 13 Lakers and Steve had the big one of the day at 25.5 inches and it was our only jig fish, they wouldn't even look at the jigs today and all of a sudden one flew in and slammed steves jig it was on a 32" med-light eagle claw rod with 8 lb test and a little bucktail in perch color with a smelt on it, he had some power and used it. It was a great healthy, thick, blocky head, fatty.

Steves BAD BOY!!!

And the Mrs with a nice 23" chunk.

Tuesday fished some new areas i always wanted to try and it was alright we landed 11 lake trout and 1 salmon. All fish within 2 feet of bottom on smelt. No jigging done. The ice was super slick and back to almost clear black in most places, easy goin but slippery. Pictures are stuck on a camera phone

Wednesday i had Kieth and his 2 boys 8 and 10 from jersey out for some fishing. We headed out late and left early, it was enough for the boys who ice skated the whole time out there. We landed 7 lakers and had fun.

JJ - Keith - Max
(http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/YOAdrien/100_2625.jpg)

Thursday it was nice out there except the snow that piled up about 1.5 inches was wet and melted when it hit you and made your clothes a little wet. The early bite was terrible probably because of the almost full moon, no clouds and clear black ice. But we picked up a couple early and then the bite really turned on at 9:45 until noon to get us up to 11 lakers a rainbow and a cusk. The rainbow was caught 32 feet down on a big airplane bucktail and sucker meat it was the last thing we expected to see but it was a 19" beauty. We had a lot of short strikes on the jigs plus we had 3 or 4 come unhooked while reaching for them in the hole, so we had a lot of action for sure just dropped a couple at the hole.

The great rainbow
(http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/YOAdrien/100_2631.jpg)

The lake should be awesome this weekend i think that little bit of wet snow will freeze down and make for super easy walking and going with sleds and wheelers.

Friday we fished!! Probably not the brightest idea but we did. It was a blizzard out there we landed 7 lakers and finally called it a day when the traps started blowing out of the holes and flying down the lake. This is the 1 laker we did keep he freeze dried in about 4 minutes.

Derby Saturday we iced a bunch of whites and a bunch of yellows and a bunch of lakers and we let them all go. Looking at the saturday results i think we might have blown it because we had whites and yellows in the board size but judging by past years they wouldn't have made it, oh well will never know my scale said 2.18 on a couple of whites and 1.25 on a couple yellows, way out in the past years. We had fun and caught fish that was what counts anyways. Once again the Snow Cat proved invaluable for keeping everyone mobile and warm it was flat out nasty sat morning with piercing wind. No Pictures, all were released.

Derby Sunday we went for Rainbows and landed 8 and kept 6 and 2 made it on the board but got bumped out late on sunday just about 2.25 pounds i forgot exact weight but very close. Here's the gang with their 6 bows.

Fished wednesday and the fishing was annoying, this after the full moon thing always ticks me off on winni. The fish just wouldn't bite until 1 pm but when they did eat we got 6 lakers pretty quick and they were gone, saved the trip.

Thursday i had to cancel my trip because i was in the hospital with something, needed a couple IV bags and got me back going, friday i was way too weak to go as well and had to cancel again.

Saturday morning i felt better and went through with the trip. The moon has finally wained enough to get the lakers back to almost normal again and they started to feed at about 9 this morning and continued steady until we quit around 1, we landed 12 lakers and an 18" smallmouth and 1 white perch. The bite should pick up for lakers by 8 tomorrow morning, die about noon and pick up about 2 again. Getting them best about 40-50 feet deep.

Best 2 fish today were 24 inchers followed by a 20 and 19 and a bunch of 17-18's
(http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/YOAdrien/100_2650.jpg)

Steve from wednesday with a 19 incher, he and Bob combined for half a dozen trout.

Taking a couple days off and back at it come tuesday, good luck tomorrow, don't move your lake trout flags until 9:30 tomorrow morning if you're not getting bites, wait until after 9:30 if you're going to move, there should be action by then, IF you are on fish.

Took Steve and Sharon on a rainbow trip today and we had a nice day on the lake, pretty windy but the sun finally warmed us up.

We landed 7 rainbows between 15 and 17.5 inches along with a couple yellow perch and a pickerel. Bite was best early and slowed mid day, a lot of hit and run in the mid day we just couldn't hook up with.

Had a decent day on the ice today. We had 8 flags, landed 6 lake trout, kept 2 and had only 1 bite jigging and he came off. It was very slow, and i couldn't get a fish to commit to any jig besides that one. We had lake trout toy with our jigs for 30-40 minutes and wouldn't bite. Normally 90% of the fish that come to the jig hit within seconds but not today. Most fish caught in the first couple hours. Go early tomorrow.

I was surprised to see this happen today, no matter how hard i pattern these trout they can throw a curveball off the backstop every now and then, everything was almost perfect, i expected to see 20+ trout today, the trout had other ideas, make notes and adjust in the future.

On the plus side, these guys are funny and i had a good time fishin with them, and only 1 of them puked all over the ice, must have been seasick?

Fished with dale and the boys from the cape on 2-14-10
we landed 11 smallmouth bass 12 lakers a salmon and a couple white perch, it was windy as heck but the fishing was hot.
1 of 11 great smallmouth caught jigging and tip-ups. Best jig was a berkely gulp minnow on a lead head.
3 fish the boys kept all the rest were released
(http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s174/YOAdrien/100_2654.jpg)

Yesterday 2-18-10 Sam Jacob and Dad had a great morning with 11 lakers and a couple big whities
they called it a day around noon, mission accomplished.

Today 2-19-10, Dave and his buddies had quite a mixed bag of fish. They landed 7 lakers 2 big cusk a jumbo yellow and 5 FAT Whities plus a couple small yellows. steady action all day was nice to have. A few on jigs including the 3.5 and 4.5 pound cusk back to back by Dave on a perch colored bucktail in the rocks. The big one was 27 inches long he was all curled up in the pictures but he was a long one. Can you believe that HOG Yellow.

Yoadrien

What a great day we had. You said you put us on the fish and boy did you. You also played one of the greatest ice fishing jokes on me so far in all my ice fishing years. Still laughing about it right now.

If anyone is looking for a great charter you will not be disappointed in YOADRIEN. Great service, advice, price and fishing!!
We will see you next year for some Bow fishing.

Thanks again for a great day!!

Fished with Ciaran and Dave and we had a great time, word of advice though, Dave's Chili tastes good now, but, it causes problems the next day!! We fished winni and landed 6 smallmouth and 10 lakers and 1 whitie. They only kept the 1 whitie to fry and the rest were released, the pic of the smallmouth was quickly released after, all nice sized bass and trout for the day. Windy, but what else is new. Smelt and gulp minnows on lead head were the ticket.

Yo,
Man we had a blast (not a reference to the chili.)   Anyone who wants to have fun, catch fish, and trade some great banter about the love of our sport owes it to themselves to book a trip with Adrien.  He is the source for the best, honest state of our NH fisheries and any solutions to improving what we can do to insure it will be there for our kids.  We'll be back.  Lots of laughs and fish...thanks again.

Lots of great food on the grill too!!

We caught 6 lakers and 2 cusk and they were 27 and 28 inches long!!

Had a super day on the ice today. Great guys and great weather, i didn't wear my coat all day. no action jigging today, all tipups. We landed 8 lakers, 3 smallmouth, 6 whites, and a few yellows plus a 2.2 pound 17 inch chub!

2 best lakers were 25 inches each at a little over 5 pounds and a 22 and 23 at 4 pounds each. Lots of nice thick fish.

Fished with Jim Flanagan and 3 of his girls today, what a blast, fun kids and very good anglers i must add. We landed 8 lake trout with Jims 25 incher that pulled the scale a hair past 5.5 pounds, it was a beauty to see. Also a great smallmouth and a thick whitie. These are no girlie girl anglers, they wanted to bait their own hooks, set their own lines and they certainly have no problem grabbing the fish to pose for pictures or clean them for supper. If i ever hire a mate for charters these 3 will be on top of the list!

I just love the charters during the school vacation weeks, the kids are always the most fun part of my job, i don't mind funny old fat guys either, but the kids make it special.

Fished Saturday 2-27 with a group of guys from boston it was a decent day and we got 6 lake trout and quit early, it was pretty windy and was mixed precip that made everybody wet, never snapped a pic.

Fished Sunday 2-28 with Duncan and Dwight for yellow perch and we had a ball, caught about 50 and kept the 15 biggest jumbos all over a pound and 1 bonus white perch plus a couple pickerel released.

Fished Monday 3-1 with Mike and Dick and it was WINDDDYYYYYY, but the fish were biting!! They landed 17 Lakers 10 white perch a handful of yellow perch and a couple smallmouth. Action everywhere all day. Jigs and Flags. They released all the lakers and kept most of the perch, it was quite a bag of fillets.

Fished tuesday 3-2-10 with mike and dick again and we did well with 5 lakers 5 smallmouth a few whites and a few yellows and a rainbow and a pickerel. Highlight was Mike's 27 inch Laker!!!! What a beauty!!

We landed 18 Smallmouth Bass, 5 pickerel, 6 yellow perch, 2 white perch, and 2 rainbows. They each kept 1 rainbow, 2 smallies and 1 white perch to eat. I havn't eaten smallmouth before but i have filleted a few for clients lately and they sure do produce a nice fillet, i will probably give it a try next time i catch one. Cuts up just like a big white perch, meat is a bit darker but who knows. Lots of people tell me they are good.

Last year combined i think i only caught 5 smallmouth and only one this year up until 2 weeks ago and now i have landed 55 in the last 2 weeks, when we had those super sunny days and black ice it must have warmed the water like a greenhouse because the reefs blew wide open and the smallmouth started biting like mad. It's a great addition to the days fishing.

We caught 1 little smallie that was 1.5 pounds and all the rest were between 2.10 and 3.55 pounds so some nice fish.

There are definately some places laft with good ice but i don't like taking clients on it, i'll drag myself out a few more times and get ready for next year.

Hit winnipesaukee today with my first charter of the season and we kicked her off in style.

My crew was 3 guys from california that took the red eye out of LA, landed in logan before 6am, and hit their first patch of ice ever by 9am.

We landed 15 lakers 3 white perch and 1 smallmouth bassy from 9:30-3:30 Surprisingly good mid day action.

Darius, Will and Steve with supper.

Fished winnipesaukee again today.

Another BEAUtiful day, sure it was 5 below to start but thats just a number, the sun came out and the wind stayed away and it was wicked pissah...

My Burly crew from Boston kicked it off with a cusk on the jig before sunrise and then added 22 lake trout and a fatty yellow perch for good measure.  They kept 4 lakers, the cusk and the perch.

Cold start, windy, right about 0 degrees. Sun was a welcome sight today.
All tip-up action today. Bite has been starting at 8:10 for the last four days, no early fish to be caught.
The guys caught 13 Lakers, 3 whites, and 4 yellow yummies. They kept a few of each to eat.

I am new to fishing for coldwater species a few words of advice would be helpfull. Do the fish seem to be coming from any particular depth as of lately? Do you set up a few feet from bottom most times?  I assume you are using smelt for bait?  I set out a trap in shallow for rainbows with a salmon egg and then jigged for lakers in about 30 feet of water with no luck yesterday evening just out of wolfeboro bay.  Used a bucktail jig yellow and red with a piece of yellow perch belly.  I have read some earlier posts that pieces of smelt on a jig have worked for you in the past maybe cut sucker.  I am really looking forward to that first laker through the ice!  Thanks for your insight.

Fished today with Steve Rachel Kerri and Nick. Honeymooners from Jersey, what a woman!!! It was snowing...... You think?

We landed over a dozen trout but I lost count and a few whities. They kept 3 trout and 2 whites. We cooked 1 of the whites on the grill they brought. It was a naked, skin on fillet, on the bare grill for about 4 mins and it was fantastic, sweet even. Bare handed off the grill rack like real men do!

Bite started at 830 like usual this week.

Thanks again Adrien. We had a blast. I was really impressed with your whole operation and especially your fishing ability and professionalism. You made us feel really safe out in spite of white out conditions and it being pretty early season ice.  We all thought it was a great experience. The lake trout tasted amazing… we ate it all back at the room. I hope we can do it again some time! Steve Cherry 1-18-11

this time of year 4-44 feet is good but i would say 34 is best right now.

3 feet from bottom

Smelt

Red/yellow and yellow/green bucktails are my fav. with sucker meat on them or a whole smelt.
Not sure if you are allowed to use yellow perch meat on a jig, i never did, might want to check that one?

Been a mostly tip-up bite for me little action on the jig.

Be careful of what you use for cut bait. I believe that you can't use spiny fish  as bait ,be it for chum or any bait.

Thank you for the fishing tips I will let you know how it turns out.

The bait issue: from now on I will play it safe and refrain from using spiny fish as bait although I did look up the rules on F&G's site. They list the species that are legal to fish with when live they make no distinction to using dead fish unless it is an interstate water with Maine.  I know guys who use the eyes from perch.  At any rate smelt and suckers seem to be the go to and I will not take any chances I just thought it was interesting when I did look up the rules as far as I could see.

http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Fishing/baitfish_species.htm

In the rules for interstate waters with Maine that:

No more than 5 lines are permitted at any one time while ice fishing (EXCEPTION: Great East Lake).
No dead or living pickerel, goldfish, yellow perch, white perch, bass, sunfish, crappie, horned pout, carp, or any spiny-finned fish shall be taken, sold, or possessed for use as bait for fishing in New Hampshire-Maine interstate waters.

Happy Fishing!

And i thought yesterday was good.....

Dave Ciaran and John Put the hammer down and never let off all day. This is the second trip out with me for these guys and rainbows were on the agenda. Remember, Dave almost killed me with his Chile Last year, well i sure do. Anyway 21 Healthy rainbows found their way to the hole today but oddly enough only 1 white and 1 yellow perch came up? It was non-stop action all day. All tip-ups, all smelt, all weekend. They kept 4 and 1 made its way onto the grill for snack-time.

John from Gloucester with a great Rainbow Just about tickled 19 inches.

21 rainbows that is incredible, no wonder they booked another trip with you. I've asked for advice several times and I can't think of anyone better to answer what is working at any given time.  I will say your advice for lakers paid off for me this weekend using smelt and tip ups in that 34' foot range, so thank you for that.  Sound like rainbows prefer the tip up presentation too, I've heard they like sandy bottoms and to fish them close to shore in a few feet of water in most cases.  Other than that do you look for areas that have current, near bubblers, have access to deep water?  Also do you prefer using circle hooks when fishing with live bait the lakers i caught swallowed my regular size 6 baitholder hooks.  I have had issues with circle hooks in the past maybe I am setting the hook wrong? Thanks again Adrien, your the man.  Next few days going to be frigid hopefully it will help the ice situation a bit.

YOAdrien Charters Lake Winnipesaukee New Hampshire Ice Fishing Guide

Steve and sharon wanted to go for white perch today so we gave it a shot. First rod in and a whitie hits the jig, well you know thats bad luck....... Anyway we ran through 6 dozen minnows and caught tons of fish but mostly micro-yellows. The tally at the end of the day for eating size fish was 3 nice whites, 3 nice smallmouth,  2 nice rainbows and 10 eatin size yellows. So all in all a great day of fishing never went 1 minute all day with out a flag or 4 up at a time.
We grilled up a nice rainbow for lunch, i knew the second he came in he had a big fat senko stuck in his gut and sure enough he did, his stomach was just full of 1 senko, nothing else would fit in it, if you didn't know i HATE SENKOS!!!!!!

Hit the ice today with Al. It was nice early and warm but the wind picked and the blowing snow was crappy later. Anyway the fish didn't care and Al brought 17 Rainbows in including this beautiful 19 in female full of eggs.
All were release. Except 1 16 incher we had for lunch. Also got a bunch of yellows and 2 nice whites.

YOAdrien Charters Lake Winnipesaukee New Hampshire Ice Fishing Guide

Fished with quite a crew from R.I. today. The lakers went on a tea time bite again, always annoying when they are hitting once every 2 hours and all the flags fire at once so its hot and cold all day. Aside from that the bright sun drove the lakers deeper today into the mid to high 40's and low 50's fow. The guys landed 10 lakers up to 23 inches and 4 Smallmouth and 2 whites. We grilled the 2 whites for snacks. My man on the left was trying to lose the whiskey breath and he figured bass breath was better, hey what can i say he only has 2 hands...

Saukee is slowly getting better, where its good, its perfect and where its bad, its BAD BAD BAD if your quad goes in the slush stop and turn around youre not going through this stuff, try and go around.

YOAdrien Charters Lake Winnipesaukee New Hampshire Ice Fishing Guide

Had a great crew of 6 from the southland (anywhere below mass) They came up for a 2 day 3 night ice fishing getaway. We got out to our first choice and it was totally slush covered so we moved along a bit to where it was nicer conditions. Flags started to fire immediately and we were in. The guys caught lots of Lakers, prob about 18 plus 9 white perch and 1 JUMBO yellow. We grilled 5 whites on the lake and everybody got a fillet or 2, fantastic as usual. Jig bite was slow but did manage 1 laker on the jig. And there was the 19" Tagged Rainbow too.......

Same Crew day 2, down 2 anglers due to decreased liver function i believe.

we headed out again today with the down south boys and got into the fish quickly again, the boys iced 12 lakers and a few perch, white and yellow. It was a pretty standard day on the ice with good weather and plenty of laughs.

The highlight of the day was the Grilled perch for lunch, or i mean the non grilled perch for that matter. I filleted the big 1.5 pound yellow and handed 1 of the guys the egg sack and said here, these are good. So he takes a bite and says wow these are better than the sushi restaurant. They actually passed the eggs around and ate them RAW!!! My dad used to cook them and eat them, but not raw, yuck.

We quit early today with a great weekend under our belts, i think the guys needed a little nap before dinner.

Lake is pretty hard but there are still slush pockets.

Here is a nice whitie that made the grill sizzle.

Had a 1 man bow mission today. Mark from Mass. We had 2 flags up by the time we set the 4th line and that was the beginning of another super day on the ice. Marks second fish was a super nice 19.25 inch female spurting eggs and his 10th was a 19 incher spurting eggs. In total he landed 15 bows plus a few smallies 2 whities and a yellow.

Mark Released ALL the bows today and the only kept fish were 2 whites that we grilled and ate. THANK YOU MARK!!

Took Harry and Chickie out for bows today. We really expected to hammer them and have them take the hook deep everytime because of  the front rolling in but to my surprise they were quite tentative on the bite. We did land 13 Rainbows with the biggest just over 16 inches, no monsters today but good fishing. The surprise was that we had 9 bows strip off line and drop it after 20 yards or so, that is not common we usually land around 80 percent or better. Around noon they really started taking it deep and runninng off 50-70 yards at a time. We grilled 1 and kept 2 to go. Thanks for a fun day guys it was a pleasure.

The guys with #13 about 15 inches and released.

We were interupted from our grill all to frequently by the fish who must have smelled the shrimp cooking and wanted up and out. 19 lakers came out today and 19 lakers went back in today. Winni derby day 1
Dan Provencher was my guy today, his crew bailed for a wedding, come on guys, its the derby, i mean how many times do people get married these days, you will get another chance, but derby 2011, well it only happens once.

Anyway we fished rainbows and landed a number of nice fish but none that could crack 3 pounds so no board money. we had the 6th place laker at 4.64 pounds also no board money we got bumped off after the scales had closed there was a 4.67 pounder in line waiting to weigh that bumped us by 3 hundreadths of a pound, bummer. A great day of fishing anyways.

ok so the biggie on a jiggie and even bigger biggie pics have been shared.

We mixed a goup of single fisherman today and hit good old windypesaukee.
The fish bit tip-ups from 18-51 feet deep and jigs in all depths too. 13 lakers and 2 cusk were landed. Bucktail with smelt was best but naked airplane took a couple fish too.

This is Scott and Jesse with a 19,22,25in laker and 27in cusk. we actually got blown over a couple times i bet we had some gusts near 40mph maybe more it was stupid but was worth it. That cusk was empty of all his sticky icky.

Took the cooper boys out today for lakers. We landed 15 on tip-ups not much jigging in the hurricane today. If you thought yesterday was cold you should have tried today it was nasty. But we got it done. Here is bobby with a nice 23 inch laker.

Fished with a crew from Tewksbury Ma today. It was just as windy and nasty as the last 2 days. We landed 9 lakers and a smallmouth. We quit by noon because i think my crew was fed up with the wind, i don't blame them at all, it was crappy. The next run of fish would have started at 12:45 but we didn't stick around for it. Damian has the 2 he kept in the photo.  We released all the rest today. After we finished up we grilled a lake trout. I filleted it and grilled it skin down on low completely plain. You wouldn't believe it if i told you, it was absolutely fantastic, i know, i know, but it really was i couldn't tell the diff between laker and rainbow off the grill plain. No fishy strong taste, just plain good, we ate up a whole laker in seconds. I WAS SHOCKED how good it was.

went fishing for bass today with Dwight Duncan and Papa. It's quite a change up from my normal trips so what the heck lets do it.

We landed well over 30 smallmouth and the same number of useless small yellows not big enough to fillet. Every Fish was released today.

We were chasing flags all day and John jigged all day and just kept pulling out smallie after smallie all day it was some fast fishing. Lots of nice sized bass and a few smaller ones but a good number of 2.5-3.75lb fish real fighters on the light jig stick.

Look close at the last pic it is cool.

THE CROWNING ACHIEVEMENT Duncan Catches 2 perch at the same time. How? You say. Easy, one swallowed the bait and the other swallowed the sinker and it got caught in his gills. There you go Duncan 2fer.

Had a crew from mass today on a 2 night fish and stay package and the whole way home from my charter yesterday i was puking out the window of the truck, YUK!! Most of it went in the backseat, not out the window, even BIGGER YUCK!!!

I couldn't leave the guys hanging so i enlisted my dad and good buddy slipknot to take them out today. I told them they would not be charged for the fishing as Dad and slipknot are not guides but sombody had to take them fishing it just wouldn't be right, they agreed.

The crew had a super day on the ice, warm and no wind, i watched cooking shows in bed dreaming of eating something that would stay in me for more than 5 minutes.

Word is that they landed 11 lakers and 1 smallmouth and everybody had fun.

I feel better and i am heading out tomorrow.

Here's 1 of the guys with their laker limit.

Nice Rainbow Dispy, Would have much rather been out there on the ice than workin today ::)
Glad you all had a good day. Nice Job Guys  ;)
Since I have never ice fished with my father, in all of my soon to be 42 years and my junior brother by 12 years, whom just got into ice fishing, I could not just take him out and chill him to the bone by 4-wheeler. While sitting in my hard-side on BIP crappie fishing until 10 p.m. , I suggested going to Winni, first him and I, then maybe Dad too. Perfect set-up, Adrien was available, I knew we'd be on fish, the bite would be perfect, and Dad would be warm and enjoy himself. We were going regardless, but preferred a trip with Dad.

After releasing a bigger fish than my Dad's, I stated " I have a date at 11:33 a.m. with one that will be bigger" and BOOM flag up while starting to cook..no fish..reset.my bro retrieved 2 more lakers and Dad 1 more. Then a storm was brewing to which I announced "here's my date, she is late due to a storm"...flag up..Adrien and I ventured to the trap and found a hit & miss, reset and then HIT.......never expected a rainbow....

Thanks again Adrien for putting us on fish!!!!! A first time certainly cherished amoungst family!!! ;D

BTW: Dad conceded that the one I let go was bigger than his...Maybe age/ wisdom thing..haha.

Again, thanks for making it happen.

Cheers & Tight Lines!!!

Took Joe B and his kids out today. -10 to start but it warmed quickly. The fishing started very slow and then after noon it caught fire and we quickly jumped up to 13 lakers 2 whiters and a salmon. I was watching my tip-up bait with my lowrance and trout woukd come in and refuse a live smelt it was bizarre they just were not biting there. They kept 2 whites and 3 trout. This is the crew, Charlie is holdikg a nice 21 inch laker.

Fished with a big crew today. I think they had a trick cooler because no-matter how many beers they pulled out there were still more in it??? False bottom I guess? Hollow legs too. We hit the fish hard all morning with 17 Lakers, 15 White Perch, 2 smallmouth and 1 small salmon.
All but 5 whites released, we grilled and ate them. Highlight was the monster laker we had on and fought for 15 mins before he had the 11.25 in smallmouth that the hook was buried in his tail ripped out of his stomach and swam away and all we got was this crap. It's the second time this season we have lost a 6+ pound trout for the same reason, hook buried in the bass spine right by the tail. Oh well....

It Rained...... ALL DAY
and then the temp dropped and everything froze, that was awesome!

OK so harry and chickie had enough with rainbows last time, so this time we went pickerel fishing, no, no need for your reading glasses, we went pickerel fishing, in the rain you read that right.

Harry needed pickerel to pickle

I took them to a hot pickerel spot and we landed about 20 pics and kept 9 of the bigger ones, also got about 20 yellows and kept half a dozen whoppers. We let all the small stuff go and we quit about 11am when the temp dropped and wind swept in and froze everything, flag wires were frozen together and wouldn't pop.

10 inches of water on the ice, up to the running boards on the snowmobile, the holes were like flushing toilets when you drilled it was draining hard.

Heres the guys with some of the catch, put a few more nice ones on the ice after the picture.

We quit before noon today so the catch was a little off but the guys did manage to land 6 lakerds and a smallmouth before getting all wet. The first 2 nice ones jigging and the rest on tip-ups just kept the first 2 released the rest.

The lake trout are making me angry this week. Yes, I am catching plenty but it's hard. Lots of drilling and moving and they are scattered at depths from 18-69 feet. Just when you get a pattern going it craps out and gotta search again. Anyway enough of that. We went after em anyways and landed 11 and a 19 in salmon. 4 trout took the jig rest on traps.

Took a super secret crew to a super secret rainbow spot today, specifically for a wall hanger rainbow, problem is nobody told the rainbows. We were set up in the dark and got 6 flags, 1 was a 40 yd run and drop the others yielded a 21in lake trout, a 24in pickerelz, and 3 salmon 19,22.5,23inches. The rainbow eluded us today but we did bring some nice fish to the hole. Rained all day, holes went from 8 to 13 inches in 8 hours, serious flushing.

Couldn't get the perch to commit like yesterday so we pulled the plug and got out of there and went for laker water and landed a bunch more to take it up to 11 lakers for the day, plus the other whites / yellows and salmon. A perfect day to be on the ice. They kept 6 lakers as that was enough to eat. The biggest was a nice fat 4.12 lb chubbie.

29 rainbows landed today, 4 smallies, 3 yellow perch. 3 cheers for the supermoon+cloudcover+storm dropping the pressure.
john and jonathan are going to sleep good tonight, (ME TOO) we walked a few miles today chasing flags. The bows were so aggressive today it was insane they just attacked us. Lots of fsh ran 50 -90 yards of line and quick too. some great fighters. most fish were 15-16.5 inches with a few bigger. The females getting ready to spawn are real porkers. Everytime we had a flag and the bait stolen, we would re-bait and the flag would be up in less than 3 minutes, every time!! Feed Bags ON!
3 best 18 and 18.25 and 18.25 inches.

We landed 4 bows at 15 17 18 18.5 inches. We also got a handful of pesky little stockie salmon that rolled through, weird? Also got a smallmouth for lunch and had the leader break twice, uh-oh!!!! fished with a group of 4 guys today on some of winni's fishable ice, not much of it, if you were wondering. ::)
Louis Dana David and Dwayne were hoping to find some winni lakers and we succeeded. we fished an area on winnipesaukee with 7 inches of ice, been frozen for 2 weeks. The rest of the lake doesn't have much, most places have 3 inches or less, like water less......
The fishable areas aren't exactly my first choices for laker fishing but they will do in a pinch. we landed 7 lakers from 17-24 inches, 3 smallies, 4 whites ,6 yellows, a 24inch pickerel, and 3 salmon. Chased flags non stop, it was a fun first day.
Hereis a pic of dave with a nice 24 inch trout.

fished with 4 guys out of mass today for rainbows, it was very cold to start but no wind was nice it would have been bad with wind. we set up very early and had no action for quite a while. once it finally got going we landed 5 healthy trout from 15.5-17.25 inches plus a couple jumbo whites and some decent size yellows, we grilled up a couple whites and yellows plus a nice trout, it was a good lunch break. it was a slower day than usual but still a good trip, thanks for the good stories and bad jokes.

Fished with Craig and Ron today looking for a pile of rainbows and they just weren't where i left them. we got set up in the dark and had out a great spread. But it wasnt in the cards as we landed only 2 rainbows about 16 and 16.5 inches. we had a few lines in deeper water on the bottom and managed 7 or 8 smallmouth, a nice big white perch for lunch, and a bunch of little yellows. weather was great when the wind died and it was hot and sunny. i want to blame it on the post-front conditions but honestly i just dont think the fish were there, even on a tough bite we should have iced more than 2 pinkies.

Alex haring said to me "I want to mount a big rainbow"
I said let's do it....
And by mount a big rainbow, he means by himself, he's 18 and started mounting warmwater species this summer did some great yellow perch and he's moving on.

After 15 minutes and a few blistering 30 and 40 yard runs she hit the ice all 20 inches of her  plus size booty headed for the wall, a real trophy. Dad was along cheering him on.

Now what to do Alex???
Mount the pair, obviously!!!!!!!!!!!!
After landing a 3.5 pound 20in. rainbow of his lifetime, he goes and blows his record up by icing a 21.75 inch animal at 4 pounds flat. Ladies and gentlemen if you have a big rainbow at the hole on light line this is the man you want to ice the deal, absolute perfection for nearly 18 minutes until it was perfect, no panic, ice in his veins bona fide big fish master.

Fished Lakers on winni with Harry and Chickie.
6 in. ice, mostly white but hard.
Lakers were on a tea time bite doing their thing only 3 times while we were out there.
No lakers til 9:30, then 3 quick fish, dead til 11, then 3 quick fish, dead til 1, bang 2 quick fish.
so 8 lakers total, 1 yellow and 1 jumbo white perch. Had a few rubs on the jig but no serious takers.
28-65 feet took fish evenly fish ranged from 17-20 inches, nothing really fat today.

Here is chickie with his jumbo white.

Fished with a regular crew from So Carolina, Ohio, and R.I. My down south boys.
Wind was ripping with blowing snow so we ditched the lakers out in the open bay and tucked into shore and set up early and quiet for rainbows. Bite was steady for the day, no real lulls or hot streaks, bunch of bait stealing yellows made life annoying for a bit.
The guys landed 6 nice rainbows from 18-21 inches, they kept 4 and released the others, they had recipes all picked out for tonight, they are all chefs and are going to eat good tonight back at the Lakeside Get Away rooms in Weirs Beach. Same crew at it again tomorrow for lakers if weather cooperates.

Here is their 4 beauties.

Hit the lake for day 2 with my southern boys. After a super rainbow day yesterday we went for lakers and whites today. It was about 11 degrees first thing but man around 10 am it was an incredible day bright sun and super nice. We landed a handful of all species, released all the lakers and yellows but we ate all the white perch for lunch, im stuffed. Had another wonderful weekend with some great company couldn't ask for better clients. Hey this gatorade tastes funny, oh you drank half and filled it back up with crown royal and put it back in the cooler as a surprise, well done nice surprise for the lucky thirsty angler that found it.

Jason was back at it again this year "sampling" fresh sushi, last year raw yellow perch eggs, this year a rainbow trout liver, or something that looked like a liver anyway, he said it was good, but he is a very disturbed man. I wouldn't reccomend it.....

Here is jason with a nice catch of whites ready for the grill.

Had steve from boston area today looking to do some jigging for whatever would bite.
It was warm to start about 28 and warmed to near 40 mid day, but windy.
Ice gets all soft everyday at noon, like march ice it stinks.
More and more ridges and gaping cracks pop up everyday its as bad a si have seen it because its too warm for any of them to re freeze at all, very dangerous situations all over. lots of them are up to 10 feet wide with just plain open water, uncrossable.

anyway steve did very well today with our group icing 7 lakers 2 cusk and 2 salmon.
steve jigged up the pair of cusk, plus 3 lakers and the 2 salmon on tip ups down in 42 feet on bottom.

fished with a regular crew, well they come annually but they are far from regular......
we went for rainbows and it was a tough bite today. the salmon kept rolling up shallow and taking the bait, we obviously released them all at the hole, most were 19 inch 2 year olds we did get 1 nice 17 inch rainbow. we also landed a few nice smallmouth and 5 big jumbo yellow perch the 2 biggest were 1.48 and 1.92 pounds a real derby winning hog 2 days early.

did a little mix bag fishing for the casperian cup.

father and twin sons have a little contest going where the winner gets to hold the cup for biggest fish of each trip.

we set up in a nice spot and had flags right away and action was steady til about 12:30 nad shut down. we landed 6 lakers and 8 smallmouth and a yellow perch. Biggest laker was a great looking 25 incher, biggest smallmouth was a 19.5 inch brute. action from 28-51 feet deep.

hit the ice with some guys from conn.

what a nice day 45 degrees and sun and no wind, never even wore gloves today.
the lakers were ferocious on 1 flat i set up on and were not interested on a nice dropoff slope edge. they were sticking to the tops of stuff, not the edges today. caught 14 lakers and kept 6 for the smoker, the biggest was a nice 25 incher, rest were average, only 3 shorts in the mix. all tip ups with smelt in 34-51 feet of water.

so the lakers seem to have gone tea-time overnight, didn't expect it to happen today after yesterdays pattern. they didn't hit til 8:25 this morning, grabbed 2 fish, then at 10 grabbed 2 fish, then couldn't stand the slow action so moved off my structure to a softer bottom hoping for a steady bite and nothing until about 1 and grabbed 3 quick fish. so a 7 laker day isn't bad. Jamie and son Jamie and buddy roger were stocked with great food, breakfast sausages, scllops wrapped in bacon, and old bay sauteed shrimp, YUMMMMMMMy stuff. The younger jamie is a great young fisherman, plays the fish well, patient when things are slow, destined to be quite a fisherman for sure.

Here is a pic of Jamie Jr. and Sr. with a nice 23.25" 3.65 pound laker.

Took Max and clay out for lakers todaywith their dads. It had snowed about 3 inches, dense fog, and warm, we ran on Gps, couldn't see anything. Bite was hot and heavy til 8 then slow, then hot from 1130 til 1. Typical of new moon phase. The boys landed 14 lakers and a bass for the day and kept 2 to eat. Funny that the fish are holding on the north edge of structure this week and they were on the south side last week, trying to rationalize it with the moon and weather patterns but have yet to nail down why.

Took ciaran, Dave, and the boys out today. Lakers was the target. Se got into the fish right away and caught a few, then slow til 11 then back into them again. Final tally of 14 lakers, 3 smallmouth, 1 yellow and 1 salmon on a bucktail jig. Biggest fish was ciaran's 26 inch beauty caught in 27 feet. Pulled pork sandwiches finished off the day just right.

Took Scott and his crew from merrimack area today, they decided to tough out the weather and go for it. The wind was light til 9 a d then hell broke loose and it started ripping. They called it a day at noon. We were able to ice 9 lakers 3 smallmouth 1 white 1 salmon. Even a protected shoreline offered little protection. The big fish today were 22 and 23 inches, nice fat fish, kept only 1 fish to eat today.

Took forest, wife bridget and brother reid out looking for watever today and we found it. It was a beautiful sunny day with no wind and crunchy walking, perfect really starting in the 20's and climbing slowly, a bit slushy by noon.
we started out looking for whites and lakers and we found a few but nothing in big numbers, then as things went slow they turned quickly as a school of bass moved in and we were slamming them, iced 19 on jigs real quick, it was fun, big fish too 2-3.5 pounds was the average fish. when the water warms this time of year the smallies really come alive. so in total we landed 6 lakers, 2 whites, 1 salmon, and 19 smallies today it was great 28 fish is a heck of a day on winni.

hit the lake today with a crew from conn. mark wanted an ice fishing trip as his graduation present, so dad got him one. they also brought Guy along to join in the fun. We had quite a  windy day out and eventually had to just go in close to an island to escape the pounding for a bit, but the fish were biting in the wind so we stayed. The guys iced 10 lakers, 7 smallmouth bass, and 3 white perch. A few jigging, the rest on traps. bite was good until 9 then dead tilnoon then hot til 2. Smallies re so active now its crazy, and the lakers are starting to school up fr spring, lots of back to back lakers in same hole this time of year. you will watch 5 or 6 come to your jig on the fishfinder regularly now.

The ice hasnt changed much in the last 2 weeks but lots of reefs are now open water, stay away from shallow rocky spots, stick to deeper water, lots more ice.

Mark with a nice 23 incher.

Fished with wes and grandaughter julia today. we fished with full length rod and reel combinations to igfa specifications. The igfa will not recognize fish caught on jigsticks or tip ups. the current small fry (under 10) record is 1 pound 1 ounce. Julia landed a 1 pound 4 ounce yellow and after certification of the submission package she will be the new all tackle world record holder. we also landed 3 lakers a couple more yellows and 10 white perch. we did catch a white that would have set the record for that species too but it was caught on a tip up so no good. This young lady probably holds more world records than anyone you know. she is a very accomplished young anger. It was a warm and fun day on the lake.

Had a nice day today. puled the portable around and set every trap inside and pulled in every fish inside to kep the wind off the hands. That shappell fx200 is so nice with no poles to extend and the back of the cover screwed in place, it truly is flip and go, thats it, go buy 1 if you need a portable. Anyway i had 2 fathers and sons on a birthday trip. They pulled in about 10 lake trout, 1 smallmouth, 4 white perch and 2 salmon, the salmon bit as i was letting the bait down, i saw 1 grab the smelt 1 foot below the hole. The boys did a great job with the fish and kept a few to eat. It was nice to meet you all and hope to see you again soon.

Fished with bob and al today, it was dense fog this am, it was odd. we got a few early, a few around 10 and a few around 1. Slower than usual but post front and 3 days past full moon we were lucky it was cloudy last night so we could get those first couple early, it could have been bad news and awful slow if it was clear last night. We iced 5 lakers and 3 smallmouth all on tipups with smelt in 24-65 feet, no real good depth just a mix but we tried a lot of depths and tops and bottoms of humps, just a bit slow. All fish released today.

fished with dan and mike today, it was so icy this morning driving it was unreal, roads were more slippery than the lake. long drive in.

hit the ice about 630 set a trap, and it pops in my face, pull in a fat whitey, set it back and 1 has it before i set itin the hole, so i grab 2 rods and the guys throw them down with small jigs and a live smelt on and the iced 12 beauties in a hurry, and then they were gone. we didnt get another white all day. we got a few yellows there jigging, 2 big enough to fillet. it was dense fog all day and we had a couple traps on each side of us and could barely see them. final tally for the day was 10 lake trout, 12 whites, 20+ yellows, a big 25in. pickerel in the weeds and a salmon in the weeds right in the pickerel hole??????????

Got to spend the day out with YoAdrien Charters yesterday helping him out with some clients. All of these folks have been out with Adrien before, but with Steve needing a little extra help on the ice I was glad to join him and give him a hand.

We had an amazing day on the ice....1st trap in the water had its flag popless than a minute after the smelt got down...it was on after that. We were in a nice school of BIG whites...ended up with 6 over 2.5lbs, and a bunch more all good eating size. Ended the day with 6 dozen smelt GONE! Some lakers, a few bass, a bunch of white perch and some big slob yellows too....here are some pix and some happy people as well.

Just goes to show, wheel chair or not, you can get out and have a great day!!

We saw this ALL day long!!!

The fishing this month has been fantastic most days. We have had some monster days just landing all species of fish all day long. A couple slow days, but, mostly thrilled customers and a happy guide too. Weather has been warm but windy. Mid month the white perch bite in the early morning was tremendous and the mid day laker bite was off the charts. Lots of smallmouth being caught all month, the biggest was 21 inches, lots of 17-19 inch fatties. Seen lakers of average size up to 25 inches and a number of 2.5 pound slob white perch have been taken. Very few salmon this month makes me happy, but the few we have caught have been decent looking fish, i have been avoiding a lot of the areas that have lots of salmon and has really cut downthe catch, only 4 salmon caught all month.

Here are some pics from the last month.

Julia and her grandfather Wes hit the ice today with me and she was looking for her world record white perch to go with her world record yellow perch from last month. It took a little looking and 1 big move. Then we weeded through some smaller ones and then she caught 3 that topped the world record by a little bit, then this bruiser beat it out by 3/4 pound.

Here is Julia fighting it on her st croix 48in ice rod. Very specific tackle must be used per IGFA regulations.

Here's mister big at 2 lbs 9 ounces or about 2.60 pounds The pending small fry division all tackle world record.

I had a mixed charter today. Wes and his nephew from Long Island and karen and Luis from Malden mass. we started off the morning fishing lake trout and landed quite a few nice ones. the fishing got a little slow so we moved half a mile and found a giant school of white perch. During the height of the bite we brought 70 fish to the hole in under 1 hour, everybody kept about four each. It was great to see so many quality fish get released. three of the perch beat the IGFA catch and release world record, but sadly the largest was not caught on official tackle so it does not count bought two of the fish do count and should be certified then break and rebreak the catch and release world record. catch and release World Records are based on fork length in centimeters. and official tackle is very specific. Full length rods are required, tip ups and Jig sticks don't count. Photos witnesses and line samples all submitted.

I had a mixed charter today with a group of three from Boston area and a group of three from Long Island. All the boys got along well with a little fighting in wrestling but they took turns well and didn't fight over the fish. Each group of three anglers kept 5 fish to bring home and released just as many. We tucked in behind an island and it was actually quite pleasant today.

Thanks Bill et al.
To be honest, "a good time" is a gross understatement!  ;)
You cannot go wrong with Adrien. Today was a very special day.
The guy on the left is a friend that spends most of the year living on the Chesapeake in VA. It was his first time ice fishing and Adrien put the bar up far too high for me to take him out alone again.  :( He and Adrien shared a bunch of duck hunting stories. BTW, they're almost as bad as anglers but I really couldn't tell how much lying they were doing?  ;D
My other friend to the right, is a NH Native Yankee.  We share a lot of time on both the water & ice.
 FYI, both are Nam vets.
Thanks again Adrien for an awesome day!

Melissa was the star of the day today catching the most and the largest fish, this beautiful lake trout was 23 inches and nice and fat, she also caught a bunch more lake trout and some nice white perch on the jig. Oh yeah, her boyfriend caught a couple too...

Is there an advantage?

The International Game Fish Association does not recognize fish caught on Jigsticks or tip ups rods must have at least 40 inches from the real Seat to the tip to be considered legal tackle for world record catches so far I have 5 and hopefully counting.

Wow .....  that is interesting and it's not every day this old dog manages to learn something so thanks for the answer  ... and congrats on the world records

What are the 5 records??

Do you find it awkward to ice fish with??  It sure seems like it would be  ....  i love the feeling of a big old fish on a tiny little jigging rod  ;D

Small fry (kids) all tackle yellow perch weight
Small fry (kids) all tackle white perch weight
12lb. Line class white perch weight
2- catch and release white perch length

and yes it is somewhat awkward to fish with But it's kind of fun too

this is Steve with a nice Laker from today. Steve's group of 3 anglers caught 4 Lakers, 3 salmon, 2 cusk, 1 smallmouth and a dozen white perch. It certainly was quite a mixed bag. it was a little tough and nothing bit very well today but we got everything to throw us a little bone and we made the best of it. then in the end it turned out pretty darn good, everybody caught at least 7 fish.

I prefer the long rods myself. They really shine in shallow water for panfish

I guess you can't get a record winning fish on a jig rod. It has to be on a regular type fishing rod to have it count in the record books when ice fishing. This is my understanding perhaps someone will answer you that really knows the answer.

HI Everybody,
I didn't even ice fish 1 time in NH last season 2016. I was so disappointed in the conditions out there and the lack of safety for myself, my clients, and my family that i just couldn't do it. I am re-energized by the prospects of a great 2017 season the i am booking trips again. If you would like to discuss your own custom ice fishing adventure with me call me at 603-785-6660 or email me at [email protected] Hope to see you out there, Adrien
