After TGF's description of BC burbot being longer and leaner than their Manitoba brethren, we might just see BigWalleye packing up and moving west though ;) ;D
I have as yet no photo of me with a burbot yet, but I almost dove in after one in March...fortunately (?) I am a long way from being able to fit into a 10" hole.

Today I saw my first burbot and fell in love ;D We were about to leave and got a fish on in the shack and I called burbot and it was.

Just wondering if that top picture is photoshopped... The transition from the burbot to the skin looks like it has too much contrast lol maybe I am just over-analysing.

I may be a southerner now but these fish are valuble, in The Pas when I was young we apprecited the muria's on the ice, we used them as bat's to wack the real fish we were to catch, it's nice to see the times changing but once your up there, there is a differance. We were told to nail the fish to a board and boil for 2 to 3 hours and then eat the board. ;D ;D ;D ;D

what is a good hook for burbot when your icefishing?

I dont specifically target them most of the time, but a J hook with a live or salted minnow works justs fine....others, especially fishermanjake in Alaska use circle hooks on the sets and apparently are always hooked in the corner of the mouth which makes for an easy removal.....Grump

I am the world's worst burbot fisherman. I'm even worse than Germ!!!!! I have been skunked for burbys at our burbot lake twice in a row!!! But I did catch a decent rainbow.....so it wasnt a complete skunk!

Wow perchpounder you cradle robber :o That thing is so small you could almost swallow it whole. I too plan on joining this special club as soon as I can catch a burbot. I haven't caught one since I found out about Kiss Nessie over a year ago. :'(
