Ice fishing jig suggestions?
« on: Jan 10, 2010, 08:32 PM »
 ;D Howdy,

I am relatively new to ice fishing and was curious if any of you that are more experienced, have any suggestions for jigs or artificial bait for trout. Thank you in advance for your replies. ::)

Up here where i live I use one of two things. The first is just a night crawler with a yellow marshmallow on the end of the hook or a black maribou jig with yellow eyes. Just let the night crawler sit about 1-2 feet off the bottom and jig the black maribou up and down at about the same depth. Weclome to the site! Its very addicting!!!

i usually just set tip ups size 16 treble with 4lb fluoro liter no weight with a small minnow below the ice then hang out and wait to catch a few. I've had luck jigging with smaller white sweedish pimples with a couple spikes. Caught 7 in two hours last time i went out for rainbows. Got this one picture right as the camera phone died. Caught an awsome big male just short of 20" right after.

I used a black marabou (1/8 ounce, football head, with gold tinsel) to catch a dozen browns and rainbows from 14" to 20" today, most in 10 FOW.  tipped with a meal worm and 2 spikes.  Pounded the bottom, raised 6", held about 30 seconds then twitch and raise slowly at the same time.  Works well alot around here.
