after each term, there's another election ... and anyone can run (subject to qualifications like age and residency)

if the same individual gets elected again, that's not a lifetime politician problem ... it's a VOTER problem

NOT WRONG

A presidential term is 4 yrs
A Senate term is 6 yrs
A House term is 2 yrs

The only one that's for life is supreme court  ... and that's not an "elected" office
We are talking about 2 different things.  You are talking about term length.  I am talking about limiting the number of consecutive terms in which a particular vermin can be re-elected which is the commonly accepted definition of term limits.

Term limits would help to overcome the voter problem.  Our founding fathers never intended for people to serve in congress for life.  They realized that humans were imperfect and that power corrupts so they tried to put checks and balances in place to keep power from concentrating. Unfortunately one thing the founders failed to foresee was today's career politician.  If they were all limited to two consecutive terms we would be much better off and the roaches would have to get real jobs once in a while instead of milking off the government all their lives.

and that's what elections are for

if John can't run again because he's served x number of terms in a certain office, then John's protege Jack will run next
if the voters would have re-elected John (had he been able to run again), then aren't they most likely to now elect Jack (rather than go with a candidate of a completely different persuasion)?

surprise; Jack is gonna be just like John was

until Voter perceptions and behavior change, neither will the results

having an incumbent get beat in an election produces much more effective results than having him required by law to "sit this one out"

I think we are doomed.  You guys in MN elected Jesse the Body and Stuart Smalley.  We in NY elected Hillary, Eliot the pervert and now Il Duce Andrew.  Il Duce enjoys a 70% approval rating.  Unfortunately I think voter perception is going the wrong way.  One of the founders said our government will work until people discover they can vote themselves money out of the public treasury.  I think we hit the tipping point about 20 years ago where there are more people on the gov't teat than not.

Ronald Reagen warned us. The U.S. will never vote for a socialist, but they will vote for a socialist democrat.
(those aren't his words but that is basically what he said)
I like how the media always says the 80's were so great because of the innovative hippy generation. Forget who was president at the time! ::)

Andrew Benito Mussolini Cuomo at a recent press conference concerning the "Safe Act II" ...."If people don't like the new changes to the fishing regulations that were made to make NY a safer state, then those people can just get out of NY!"

Shortly there after multiple fishing tackle and fishing line manufactures in NY said they are leaving NY for a more "fishing friendly state" thus costing NY several hundred jobs.

Anyone see on the last page of the Safe Act II the part about illegal immigrants getting public assistance to buy a fishing license, pole,
tip-ups, and tackle.  It'll all be supported by your tax dollars.

This mornings news bulletin. Andy has stepped in and intends to immediately implement the fine and reasonable suggestions in this thread. Taking a cue from the emperor in nextdoor CT, there will be no public hearings on the matter as this is clearly emergency legislation.

In other news, after scrutinizing this website he intends to propose SAFE ACT III…an act concerning the mistreatment of rodents, our beloved furry friends. His Highness announced the new Squirrels Aren’t For Electronic Avatar Combat Training legislation as the top priority of his administration. “This is the next logical step after banning cockfighting and dogfighting in this state. Anyone who would produce and display such disturbing images does not belong in NY”. Tears flowed freely as our hero vowed to bring to justice those who prey on and victimize the lowly critters. Penalties are expected to be stiff, even first time offenders can expect confiscation of their birdfeeders, and of course avatars. The offenders names will be added to the revolutionary new data base “LIST” (Lowlevel Internet Squirrel Torturer), and distributed to PETA and their ilk for future online supervision.   ;D

In a press conference today Kaiser Cuomo along with representatives from PETA signed legislation that all fishhooks must be dull, made of rubber, and barbless so as not to cause undue harm to "sea kittens".

How long until we read of "high modulus grafite rods" found in the hands of the Canadian Back-Bacon Cartels and then learn that they were smuggled over our northern border by the NY DEC in a failed attempt to track the black market trade.

The scandal will come to be know as SLOW AND SCURRILOUS

Don't forget the required "Ice Fishing Safety" course before you purchase the special ice fishing license.

Does this include safe handling of your rod  ::) in times of stress?!?

Page 4, Paragraph 6: " Due to the increased amount of propane cylinders left behind on the ice, a special " I Love NY ...But Andrew Better! " propane cylinder will now be required and awarded to lucky anglers on a lottery type system. Applications must be filled out at the Mansion by April 1st, accompanied by a one time fee of $25 in cash. Winners will be drawn by Yolanda Vega on April 2nd. Propane bottles will have anglers name, address, social security number, phone number and date of birth engraved on them to prevent littering. Chances of winning are 1 in 5,000....much better than our current lottery. "

Will we have to take an ice rod safety class before we can purchase a rod now?

Just remember no one needs more than 7 rods and tip ups or tip downs in total. If you have any more than 7 you are a menace to society and must turn them in.

If you are a Propane Permit holder (carry/conceal or restricted) you can go to the Sheriffs Department and sign the form to not have your name engraved on the cylinder for public knowledge.

Also, all parts of the new un-Safe Act are void for any fisherman using a snowmobile in New York to icefish as part of the new state snowmobile promotion.
