Only 25 seconds to set up this shanty. We went fishing on Sunday the temp outside was 5 degrees and the shanty inside was 72 degrees with the Buddy heater on low. We caught 9 perch, my wife caught a 11 1/2 incher. She said that was the first fish she caught ice fishing since 1968. Meaning she didn't do much ice fishing until she met me. We had a great fish fry on Sunday night. Nothing like fresh fish in the deep fryer.

I retired in 1998 from P&G. I then built cabinets for a while just to keep busy. Then I decided to start a sign business, mostly vinyl. Self-taught with a slow learning curve with books and videos. But after 5 years I closed the business but still help out people in need. I enjoy detail work and making signs was just right for me, I also made some easy money. Now I just turned 60 and want to slow down. It's nice to share fishing with my wife. You should've seen her face when she caught that jumbo perch.

Very nicely done Beeler! I see a wave of the Michianafisherman shacks coming on strong over the next couple years. It's a great design with quality and simplicity as the main ingredients!

I can explain anything you want about the windows. The nice thing about them is, they don't fog up like a single pane would do. I use .030 lexan for the window with a .125 or .250 inside piece to glue them together. Make one piece of the window lager than the opening so you can seal it in. Don't be afraid to ask me more questions if you still don't get it. Rick

How do you guys lock the top and sides together? Is there a pin setup on the long wall and just friction fit for side walls?

On windy days I use four multi purpose screws on the inside. On the top piece I have installed three eye bolts that act as a receiver for the back wall. Then I put a screw though the eyebolt to keep it together. If you look close in video you will see me pull some elastic cords to hold the corners without help. Other than that you need someone to hold it until you install the screws. Rick

Hi!
I'm building your shanty #1 in my mind, what are the dimensions folded and deployed?

You need to make it so it fits into the vehicle you plan to use to haul it. Each wall is a different height and because of the way it folds and the thickness of each section it would be difficult for you to just use some measurements and expect them to work. You would have to make the walls the same as mine and all of the hinges the same to make it work right. The best thing is to make yourself a folding model to understand how to do it and go from there. Hope you understand what I mean because I don't have plans and don't have time to make some. I am working on my Michiana Shanty 3 motorized version.

thanks, i was looking for general dimensions, it looks like the floor is 4x6, and folded it looks like 2 feet wide, deployed, it looks like 4x6 footprint, and looks close to 6 feet high...looks like i need to needle it further! thanks for the info!

I made it to fit into the back of a small van, so the bottom footprint is 46 X 60 if I remember right. It is shy of 6 foot of ceiling height. I know how to fix that know and have some improvements I would make to the next one. Like a doorway that you don't need to step over. I have so many ideas and no help or time. If you do make one, the roof will stick out longer than the bottom, so you need to make the bottom smaller to fit into a 48inch opening in most vehicles.

Got a new piece of equipment at work and my hours went up.

Not sure what you mean of a Dutch door, but more like the door in the Michiana shanty 2. Only two folding pieces for the one side.

I have extra seats available all the time when there is ice. Looks like two more weeks before that happens. I am going to Houghton Lake Michigan First weekend of Feb. Hope to get out before that
