anyone planning on any new equipment??
« on: Aug 16, 2004, 04:44 PM »
Bud's post about his desire for a new portable got me thinking about my own desire to add some electronics to my arsenal!
is anyone else planning on a new gadget to make life on the ice easier?more fun?more challenging or just plain different?

Within the last month I purchased 2 new motorola talkabouts and a Megellan Meridian Platinum GPS. I plan on using them elsewhere, but will also use them for ice season. Picked up 5 new Okuma UL 10's also on e-bay. I may look at getting a 2 man shanty for when I take my son out. Normally I let him use my quickflip and I'll stay outside.

I've dropped over $200 on tipups for my uncle, cousin, and me since July.

Also thinking about a 2-man.....

The old Strikmaster power auger drilled its last hole last year.  I have found that putting a 10in auger on a powerhead rated for an 8in cuts down on the life of the powerhead ::).  So I am looking at adding a 9 in Jiffy to the auger arsenal (4in Mora hand and 7in Lazer hand)?

Have to get or make a new sled this fall.  I've been using a 5' kids toboggan with 3 inch sides.  The problem is that the sled is about 4" too narrow for the handles of my Jiffy 3 hp auger, and it catches snow drifts, and pulls off the sled. >:(  That, and re-spooling my ice reels with new line should get my gear into better shape for hard water.

Still trying to convince my better half (Common Sense) into buying a AquaView and not having much luck.  Should see the looks on the other shoppers face when I have a fight with me!!  ;D ;D :-\

Not much here...I got most of my stuff replaced when all my gear got ripped off in December. I need to do a couple of things to my sled (cover, bait bucket bracket, etc), put some heavier runners on my shanty. Other then that I'm pretty much all set.

Now that my son is getting older and bigger I am thinking on upgrading to a two flip-over shelter.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an  well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, A fishing pole in one hand, beer in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming \"WOO HOO, what a ride!

jp, do you mean your 'good' friend?
I am gonna put some of the Tempress boat seats on the seats in my Frabill. The hard plastic ones are OK, but why not. Hey, its only money. I have to buy a bunch of new poles also. I need some slip bobber rods and my favorite jigging rod fell off the shack last year on thin ice so I left it there. Some more Hali dropper hooks. Maybe an 8" hand auger so when I go out planning on cutting just a couple holes 3 times a day I dont have to lug a gas auger.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

Hmm, prolly won't get a 2-man after all.  I think it's gonna be a Fishin' Buddy 2255, so I can enjoy it year-round.  Not to mention the ol' birthday is coming up, and the wife will pick up better than half of the tab  ;)

Yea I gotta buy everything....

Every time I've ever ice fished, I've gone with my friend and used his dad's equipment. But this year, we're going off to different colleges. So I already told my  parents what it is I need for Christmas!
