Conditions near Manchester
« on: Jan 21, 2020, 07:31 AM »
It looks like we're headed for some warmer weather on Thursday and Friday.  Do you guys think ice in Manchester will be safe on Saturday?

How's the ice they all ask? "I’ll tell you what, you can get a good look at a t-bone by sticking your head up a bull’s butt, but I’d rather take the butcher’s word for it."

I agree guys.. I live up here.. and to me, "safe ice" means something very simple. Make a plan to hit a few spots. Stop at #1...check it. if good, then fish. If even a bit questionable, then got to spot/lake 2... and so on. This has been my latest year starting out... (weather, work travel, general family bs and so on). That being said.. I have never fished this part of winni before ..but I had a hunch it was decent ice and I wanted to bring the sled in order to make my options a great as possible. So, I called an audible on my first lake and went there.. did decent (not a lot of activity, blue bird sky, post front etc so I knew I was in for it) but used the contours and figured it out and nailed 3 quality fish in short order. However, the ice was "ok". 4-maybe 5 (if I lied to myself) of good black and an inch or so of crappy white ice. Not the best to be tooling around on a sled, so I didn't stay too mobile.. but, point being... I have a plan, check it out for yourself and if any question....go to to the back up plan and just be happy to be out there and not at work! tight lines guys/girls..
